A great man -- MC Paul Barman -- once said of beer: "The liquid is ubiquitous and has such a hold; on all the strata, it's just got to be government-controlled. Behind the bottle and the throne sits an unknown man wiser and bigger for the liquor store the number one franchiser. Perhaps George Bush and his sons are relatives of Anheiser."
I'm not 100% sure what MC was talking about, but his gist is right: Sometimes you just feel like beer is everywhere. Television, sporting events, plastered on the side of a bus: It's seems like everyone wants us to be thinking beer. Which got me thinking, What beers do I encounter on an average day?
A far more accomplished lyricist -- John Lennon -- once wrote a song called "A Day in the Life," and from what I've heard Lennon liked to drink, so in his honor, here, after the jump, were my beer encounters on an average day... Tuesday.
- Green Flash IPA -- We decided to get a late afternoon pint and this number happened to be on tap. San Diego's Green Flash Brewing Co. has quickly exploded onto the national scene, and rightfully so. The IPA is delicious.
- Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale -- Having gone with Green Flash a few times recently, I decided to give this beer a try, inspiring yesterday's blog on wet hops.
- Pabst Blue Ribbon -- Later, we went out to see a comedy show where they were serving up PBR cans for two bucks. Remember when PBR was just a thing of legend? This one's gone from obscure to ubiquitous in my lifetime (in the past few years, actually).
- Amstel Light -- As any honest PBR drinker knows, sometimes it just doesn't hit the spot. The girlfriend grabbed on of these. No word on how "Dam good" it was...
- Guinness -- Once home, I peered in the fridge. We have a few Draught bottles in there, but I wasn't in the mood.
- Redbridge -- Anheuser-Busch sent me this product: It's a beer brewed without wheat or barley so people with Celiac Disease or food alergies can still enjoy a drink. It's keeping cool while awaiting its write-up.
- Kronenbourg 1664 -- As a beer blogger, you'd think I'd be better stocked, but beer doesn't last long in my apartment, and a few of these bottles were the only items left. You see a lot more Kronenbourg across the pond, so when we had English relatives in town, it was procured as comfort food. Time to crack a couple.
- Bloody Mary -- Not a beer and a not drink from Tuesday, but I needed one Wednesday morning.
