If there was a fruit fly competition in the Olympics, there was a time when I would've been a gold medalist. I spent a few years working in a beer distributorship, my desk nestled right next to the windows overlooking the warehouse. Empties would come in, fruit flies would multiply, and I would catch so many of those buggers in a day that I could just snatch 'em out of the air in just one try. But the skills, they are a-fading, and I'm always on the lookout for other methods.Marisa shared the vinegar solution to killing the flies earlier this month, but there is another, easier way to fight those incessant, annoying little things. Rue. According to The Kitchn, all it takes is a few sprigs of the stuff. Upon the suggestion of a rue seller, they put some sprigs in a fruit bowl full of dates, and all the fruit flies that were buzzing around it completely disappeared.
My thought: Rather than buy a sprig or two, grow it in your kitchen and have a continual fruit fly fighter as well as a nice plant.
