Tip of the Day: Prevent soggy pie crusts

With the holiday's just around the corner, we'll soon be digging into the wonderful world of pie. Do you have a perfect pie crust recipe, but when you put the filling in, the bottom seems to get too soggy? No problem. We've got several solutions for you!

There's nothing worse than a soggy bottom crust to a scrumptious looking pie. Check out these tips to create the perfect bottom crust!
With all the hard work that goes into making a pie, you'll want to make sure that all your effort is paid off with a perfect crust. Make sure that the entire crust is flaky by:
  • Brushing the bottom with a bit of egg white two or three minutes after it comes out of the oven.
  • Sprinkle it with a mixture of equal parts sugar and flour before adding filling.
  • Brush the unbaked bottom crust of a pie with a well-beaten egg white before filling. This keeps the berries and other fruits from making the pie bottom mushy.
  • Sprinkle the bottom with a layer of ground nuts to help absorb any extra moisture.
