Don't have enough mayo in the refrigerator for a recipe you're cooking up right now? No problem. Check out these easy subsititutions!

If you don't have mayonnaise, substitute 1 cup with:
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup cottage cheese, pureed in a blender or small food processor
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise + 1/2 cup yogurt or sour cream
Or go the homemade route:
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup olive oil or vegetable oil
Whisk together the egg yolk, lemon juice, and salt using a whisk or in a food processor. While whisking or with the machine running, blend in olive oil or vegetable oil in a thin steady stream until mixture is blended and thick. Makes about 1 cup.
