Slashfood Ate (8): Top food in anime

A bowl of ramen from a restaurant, pictured with someone holding some of the noodles in chopsticks.
Anime, Japanese-style animation, has become increasingly popular over the years. I remember watching bootleg copies of Dragon Ball Z movies with my friends in high school. A couple years later I was delighted to see whole (albeit small) sections of anime at video stores like Suncoast. I was pleasantly surprised, and very amused, to find this list of the top eight foods in anime from Cosplay Classes.

1 Number one is ramen. I guess it's iconic to show characters slurping up the noodles.
2. Sushi, the quintessntial Japanese food.
3. Dessert is probably more prevalent in shows geared toward women.
4. Curry sure has made it's mark.
5. I had no idea pasta was so popular.
6. Apparently hamburgers are getting a lot of screen time.
7. The Japanese hot pot is a derivation of a Chinese dish.
8. Onigiri are simple to make and all kinds of anime characters put it in their bento boxes.

I tried Japanese style noodle once, did not like it very much- mainly because the noodle is usually in-store made fresh daily, hence the broth is always very starchy; unlike the Chinese or Vietnamese style noodles which I once sampled in Little Saigon ( a town in Orange County, California, USA )- the broth was very clear, meaty and tasty. Still, maybe it's my personal taste.
1- Ramen- starchy broth.
2- Sushi- brilliant, can't have enough of it, can ya?!
3- Dessert- too sweet for me- I'm sweet enough.
4- Curry- love it, but hot curries always make me fart all day to be honest with you.
5- Pasta- not very keen on them to be honest with you.
6- Hamburger- love it. Not very keen on hot dog, though, maybe it tastes floury and not meaty at all; the meat should be coarse.
7- Origami- great Japanese style game- I can fold paper into a crane, a boat, a plane or a bird in seconds.

I can immediately think of at least 5 famous animes where the characters eat these. Not to mention video games where they are featured (like Katamari Damacy).

My children nearly came out of their skin when I made them for them, saying "This is just like what *insert long list of names I can't spell* eat!"
