Cocktail Hour: 50-50 Manhattan

After a week spent wandering the halls of Tales of the Cocktail in July 2008, sipping many finely stirred and shaken libations; I said to myself, "These special cocktails need to be shared with the world." So I bring you Cocktail Hour, a finer way to celebrate the end of the day; with these recipes. They have either been created specifically for Tales of the Cocktail, or re-designed for a new approach on the traditional version by some of the top Mixologists in the world. Many are being presented to the public here for the first time. Enjoy!

50-50 Manhattan recipe after the jump.

50-50 Manhattan

1-1/2 oz Rittenhouse 100-proof rye whiskey
1-1/2 oz Marttini & Rossi Rosso vermouth

3 shots W.L. Weller Reserve bourbon
2/3 shot sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 teaspoon Marachino cherry liquid

Shake all ingredients with ice, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

3 shots whiskey,

1/2 shot dry vermouth

i tried a dash of orange juice (no oranges), which didn't work

blood orange bitters is flippin sweet

and maraschino cherry juice works, but i just know there is something better to be used.

i love manhattans cuz i like whiskey and there are tons of variations :)

although in michigan i heard they make manhattans with brandy... so be careful.
