Where have all the fudge sandwich cookies gone?

I can remember watching commercials for Burry Fudge Town cookies as a kid. My mother would rarely buy them always telling us that they weren't a good value. I can't really tell you how they compared to the other fudge cookies of the day price wise, but the few times that Waldbaums would have them on sale we would get a box or two, and they were the best of the all-chocolate sandwich cookies.

Funny that the other fudge sandwich cookies of the day are also gone. My next favorite, and a good alternative to the Burry was Keebler's Chocolate Fudge Sandwich Cookie. These were almost as good, and must have been a better value in moms eyes, as they were frequently in the house (along with another cookie from the past, the Keebler Rich-N-Chips). At some point I discovered Sunshine's Bavarian Fingers, an all chocolate version of the Vienna Finger. Last but not least was the all chocolate version of the Keebler El Fudge. Both of these are gone now too! Does the public really loathe chocolate redundancy that much?
I found the alternative shown here, which is baked in Canada by Dare. They aren't Fudge Towns, but the closest thing to them today. There is also the Nabisco Chocolate Creme Oreo, but as much as I respect the Oreo, I think that the classic hard chocolate cookie we all know lends itself better to a vanilla cream filling. I can hope for someone to remake one of the classics I guess, but I doubt we'll see a resurrection of the Fudge Town cookie or any other Burry product for that matter. Also, I don't see Kellogg's, who now own the Sunshine brand, re-releasing the Bavarian Finger anytime soon (although they DO seem to be resurrecting the Hydrox). That leaves Keebler (also part of Kellogg's). I can see them releasing a limited edition of either the Chocolate Fudge Sandwich Cookie, or the all-chocolate El Fudge. Now what would I use to bribe a bunch of tree-dwelling elves?

If you know of any other all-chocolate sandwich cookies, please let me know. Burry was a regional brand I believe, so there may have been others. Send them to me. With milk please!

We jsut finished a box of Oreo fudge cookies a couple of days ago. Not bad. I think I prefer a normal double-stuff, but its hard to go wrong with chocolate

Looking at the Nabisco site now it seems that they are only making the double-stuff version of the Chocolate Creme Oreo. The Fudgees look like a cross between an Oreo and a Bavarian Finger. Very interesting. I will have to investigate.

I kid... I'm glad to see that bloggers on this site have an interest in pre-made food that may contain preservatives, and may not be good for you. Indulgent foods are still allowed on this site, so I still read slashfood.com. Keep up the good work, guys and gals.

Yes, these cookies may have been good in the past, but they are dreck now. The only decent fudge/chocolate cookies left come from Europe.

Mother's Double Chocolate cookies come close, but are thinner and don't have the same mouthfeel. They'll probably phase those out too. Or maybe not. I noticed Mother's has been really slow to remove trans fats.

Nabisco division in Canada makes them, they are only available in Canada or online for shipment to the U.S.

They are my all time favorite fudge sandwich cookie.
Fudgee-o's are easy to love.

Do try them, they are worth it.

I did not notice EL Fudge's chocolate/chocolate cookie disappearing.
