Double diet weight loss with a food diary

Food diary
If you're trying to lose weight this summer to fit into that very special bathing suit, you should consider keeping a food diary. A recent study from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research shows that maintaining a daily food diary doubles a person's weight loss. This recent discovery comes from one of the largest and longest running weight loss maintenance trials ever conducted.

Since more than two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, the results from this study seem crucial in helping Americans lose weight more easily. It's also worth noting that since African Americans have a higher risk of conditions aggravated by being overweight, including diabetes and heart disease, the research recruited 44 percent of its study participants from the African American community.

While it seems obvious that writing a daily account of our food intake will help us lose weight, we seem to forget it. Now, it's proven to work. I have to admit that on the rare occasions when I've kept a food diary, I was often shocked to see the laundry list of junk food I eat. Have you ever kept a food diary? If so, what were some of the foods you were surprised to see reoccurring in your daily diet?

End up wasting 30-60 minutes a day keeping that garbage organized. May as well take an extra walk and use that time for something productive.

It is tedious and only works if you're really dedicated to keep up with it. That being said - when the motivation is there I think a food diary helps a lot.

(I read up on everything and based my plan heavily on Weight Watchers, but didn't pay for membership or attend meetings.) After I slacked off, I gained some back/lost some/gained some/etc. Right now, I'm still down 55 pounds from my original weight (and plan on losing 20 more pounds).

I've found that keeping a food diary with the points that I used forces me to stick to my food plan and keeps me from having those little snacks that tend to sneak in the calories.

It only takes about 10 minutes a day to record what I eat - there's a huge database of items - and what I do. I have seen results, although I haven't been exercising due to bronchitis for the past 10 days. I highly recommend using a food diary either online or paper.

It's great to monitor calories but you need to exercise too. No way around this. I did not learn how to control my weight until I had that extra boost of calorie burning from strength training.

You don't have to do a great amount, just enough to rev up your metabolism and maybe get a bonus of extra muscle to burn even more.

If you don't you just end up being a skinny fat person who will either starve to death or put the weight back on.
