I have always been a sucker for sauteed green beans tossed with an asian sauce of some kind. Add a little tofu and a few other veggies and I'm as happy as a pig in, well, you know. So I love the food in this picture, but I also love the well-seasoned, obviously well-loved pan that this dish was served in. I aspire to having a pan that is as well broken in as that one is (my large cast iron skillet and I struggle to be friends sometimes). Check out the recipe here.
Thanks Jeannette for adding your pic to the Slashfood Flickr pool!

This really looks yummy! I am carnivorous, but Mrs. Chowbelly and I have recently brought a young lady into our home who is vegetarian. I am having a great time identifying things that she will like and will be palatable for the Chowbelly!

Interesting Almost Vegetarian. I don't see that pan as dirty, I see it as perfectly seasoned so that it is non-stick without the use of Teflon. Sorry you thought it was disgusting!

Anything with tofu and you have to know I'm going to take a look. But (and I really don't mean to be rude) it wasn't the tofu that caught my eye, but that pan. That pan is so filthy, I would not eat anything that came out of it.
It was cooked in, so I expect some mess, but this stuff looks positively baked on and rusted (although, I admit, it could just be the photograph).
Which is a shame because I bet the food was quite good.

I look at the baked-on grease (or is it rust?) speckled on the handle and it is filthy, not perfectly seasoned, that comes to mind.
A "perfectly seasoned" cast iron pan is tempered with use and CLEANED with water and a stiff brush. Not mottled with grease.

I understand the sentiment in regard to the nicely seasoned cast iron pan. I've created a link to your post in our newest "Cast Iron Around the Web" entry at http://www.cookingincastiron.com
