Tip of the Day: Be dishwasher-friendly

I rue the day I first put my manual can opener in the dishwasher -- it was the beginning of a long process of rusting. Now, I keep a solid list of tools that should stay far away from the dishwasher.
Not everything in the kitchen belongs in the dishwasher, so keep the items on this list far, far away. Feel free to add any items that you prefer to hand was as well!

1. manual can openers

2. wooden spoons

3. whisks

4. sifters

5. non-stick cookware

6. paella pans

7. wooden cutting boards

8. colored plastic glasses (they can become discolored)

9. many brands of high-quality knives (but check with the manufacturer)

Also, any glasses with etched or coloured patterns.

Dishwashers have very high temperatures, and highly abbrasive detergents which will scratch and nick anything soft or strip off thin coatings. Over time, patterns fade, edges dull, and protection gets worn down.
