Some research has suggested that, at least as an oil in shampoo and similar products, lavender acts as an estrogen-like chemical and can cause unwanted body development! It's not known if this can happen from ingesting lavender on an ongoing basis or not.

6-17-2008 @9:07PM badfrog101 said... I made lavender ice cream for my niece's birthday a few years ago, and it turned out amazingly. My wife thought the mix smelled soapy, and it did, but once it was frozen and stirred, the soapy smell was much reduced, and the creaminess and sweetness came to the fore.
I found a recipe online, and cut the amount of lavender flowers by one third. I also added a couple of teaspoons of anisette, which probably cut the soapy flavor too.
