There are tons of kitchen safety tips out there, but here are a few that I've seen recently or come up with that I'm eager to put to use. Please, please share your own safety tips, as well!1. Keep a first-aid kit in a kitchen drawer. We all know how awful it can be to traipse to the bathroom with a bleeding finger and search desperately through the crowded cabinet for a band-aid.
2. If you get a burn, don't apply mustard or other handy items, just run it under cold water.
3. Don't just stick your knives in your drying rack -- they can slip through and fall to the floor. Use a separate compartment, or lie them flat on a towel.
4. According to this recent list, if you nick your finger while cutting, you can wait until the bleeding stops and then apply a layer of clear nail polish. That way, your bandage won't interfere with your work. I'm not so sure since I've never tried this - has anyone?
5. I noticed that I often used cloth towels or paper towels to grasp the pots on my stove, and consequentially left them near the flame. I've since switched to flame-resistant ones (like these), to avoid any accidents.
5. Immediately dispose of sharp cans and lids. If they're out of the way, they can't hurt you.
Help me save my fingers, share tips!
