I don't know about you, but I'm always hesitant to buy fresh herbs. I never know if I'm going to use them before they go bad. I love to cook, I just don't do it very often. If I cook at home it's usually just for myself, so I just make a sandwich or eat cereal.
If you're like me, and love fresh herbs but don't cook regularly enough to justify buying them, then the Herb-saver might be for you. The Food Section recently brought this device from Prepara to our attention. If it works, it just may be the thing I need to get me buying fresh herbs again.
Has anyone used the Herb-Saver? I'd really like to know if it's any good. I might actually get one. By the way, turn down the volume before linking to the Prepara site: a video starts automatically, and while it's helpful, it's also loud.

I bought my parents this for Christmas. They reported that it lets cilantro stay edible for a few weeks. I don't know if it's something that I would buy for myself, but whatever. Tell someone you want it for your birthday or something.

I think this is a "neat" idea. However, all it does is keep it in water, and cover the top. We use this method in restaurants everyday. All of our cilantro, parsley, and even celery, gets put into a pan, filled with one inch of water. Then loosely top container with plastic wrap, lable, and date. This product will stay fresh for weeks. Sometimes, cilantro water gats nasty, so change often.
Good luck and enjoy your herbs!

Although that device saves you money by preserving your herbs, you know what works even better for the same price? Buy an herb plant, a pot, and some potting soil.
The price of fresh herbs is just shy of the price of live herb plants. Having fresh herbs off a live plant beats having a device that preserves herbs a little longer.

I use Evert-Fresh re-usable produce bags for all my produce, they will keep parsley fresh for a couple weeks at least. I use an organic delivery service so I only get produce once per week, the Evert-Fresh bags keep everything fresh between deliveries.

Thank you, simon-
I had been tempted by that when I saw it in the King Arthur catalogue. But at $30 I thought I could buy new herbs almost every single day.
I appreciate Berkana's suggestion too. Although I'm not good at keeping things growing indoors, I have bought potted herbs at the grocery store for a comparable price to cut herbs and been able to use them until I killed them. =o

Many herbs freeze quite well. Of course it's not the same as using fresh stuff, but still.
Also, here where I live fresh herbs are generally sold as live plants in small pots. Just plant the herb into a bigger pot, put it on a sunny windowsill and it'll keep on growing all summer long.
Of course the plastic wrapper around the "herb pot" says "keep refrigerated" - so that it doesn't grow and you'll buy a new one!
