New Papa John's ad campaign-effective or creepy?

How the new Papa John's ad looks through the peephole on your front door.
While perusing the food blogs tonight, I came across this post from So Good. I really like So Good because it generally focuses on the more humorous food related news. I'm not sure if this latest Papa John's ad is funny or creepy.

The original story is from The Fire Wire, which tells us about the direct marketing campaign the Papa John's is planning on putting into action. The ad is actually a small sticker that is stuck to your front door right under the peephole. The sticker creates an optical illusion that there is a pizza delivery person holding up a box with the local Papa Johns' delivery phone number on it.

I personally think this campaign is really creepy. I don't even like it when businesses leave fliers on my door handle or tucked in the screen door. This is going a bit too far for me, but then, I'm generally not a big fan of marketing in the first place. What's your take on this: creepy or cool?

It's quite startling to look through the peephole and see it, as it completely blocks everything else from view and thus looks quite realistic. It's a cute thought, but blocking the peephole is a terrible idea for single people who have no other way to identify knockers at the door.

Not to mention, I hate you, advertisers, for leaving garbage at my house. Get back here and clean this crap up.

Whether it worked to increase business or not was, of course, never discussed. I don't take offense to it beyond the ordinary annoyance of something left on my door handle that I did not want. Oh, I've never had the inkling to order PJ's pizza.

In fact, in a lot of places, those leaflets, door hangers, etc. *are* criminal. In my city (and in the surrounding communities), the city charter prohibits leaving such materials at someone's door unless the occupant has specifically requested it. Yet I get *tons* of them. One of these days, I'll have to find out who to complain to...

Those who say its creepy didn't get that the sticker would be left at eye level, not blocking the existing peephole. Certainly would have done its job and made me think.
