Tip of the Day: Baking pan substitutions

You don't always have the baking pan that a recipe calls for, but here's what you can do when you need to use something else.

Have you ever wanted to bake something and the recipe called for a certain type of baking vessel? For instance, the recipe specifically calls for a deep cake pan. Of course, all you have is that set of glass baking dishes. Here are some tips on how to use what you have when you don't have the bake ware called for.

If you're using glass baking containers, turn down the heat. Whatever the recipe calls for, turn it down by 25 degrees. If your pans are more shallow, then bake the dish for about 25% less time. If you find yourself baking in deeper pans, then increase cooking times by 25%.
