...Well, almost. The corporation has officially switched all of its cooking oils to trans-fat free in its U.S. and Canadian restaurants, but many of the premade products - like pies and cookies - still contain the artery-clogging ingredient.
You probably remember hearing about this - or even thinking it had already happened- because Mickie D's announced the plan awhile ago. In fact, while they were drumming up press, Wendy's, KFC and Taco Bell all made the switch to trans fat-free cooking oil.
So, thanks, McD's. Now Americans and Canadians have another way to rationalize our insane consumption of fried foods.

Its clear from the nutrition facts that its not the burger itself that has trans but rather the cheese.

McDonalds gets slammed a lot, but my fiancee and I have noticed [because we joined weight watchers about 3 months ago] that among the fast food joints, they offer some of the best options and, on the whole, the most reasonable items (that is, cheeseburger vs cheeseburger, nuggets vs nuggets). Calories and fat aren't everything, but they get slammed a lot just because they are the _leader_ not because they are the worst. Quiznos is, on the whole, a lot more caloric than McDonalds. I commend them on moving all three bajillion of their stores in the US and Canada off trans fat as much as is reasonably possible.
Plus, no one really eats those apple pies anyway... do they?

I apologize if I didn't make myself clear. Within this issue/battle of the trans fats in fast food products, the main products that they're working on getting the fat out of is the burgers and fries. Like I mentioned with McD's pies, many of items that come pre-made and pre-packaged (ie: desserts, dairy products like cheese) already have trans fat in them.
The comparison of McD's fries to Wendy's burgers was to make the point that, while McD's continues to talk about removing trans fat, other restaurants are actively making the change.
And Stealth, to answer your question, I think Sara is correct in that respect: I think it's the fatty toppings that are the trans fat culprits, not the burgers themselves).
Peace,
Ellen

Thanks for the response. I actually meant that as a reply to stealth but for some reason when i hit "reply" it brings up a blank page.

Another example of the misguided food police taking away something tasty in the name of "low fat".

If McDoanlds ever gave money to me because my Grandpa Max's birthday on Christmas and for me being born in Philadelphia in 1974 and for working for McDonalds food chain from April 1996 till January 2004 from ages 22 to 29 and my middle name is Aaron and Numbers Chapter 20 verses 22 to 29 records the death of the High Priest Aaron in the Old Testament of the Bible and on the Torah. Then they would have to give money to all the truck drivers everyone who ever worked for McDonalds and to all their farmers both fruit and vegtible growers and cattle, pork and chicken ranchers. And Jesus and feeding of the 5000 and 4000 of Loaves and Fishes and the Filet O'Fish. And McDonalds had over one million served and they had me cooking meats the whole time since I started at age 22 all the way through till 29. And I never worked breakfast because of the War on Drugs TV commercial this is your brain this is your brain on drugs and I was a closer and I washed all the "dishes" and I worked every Saturday Night for years and years and I also often did every single station. Take out the trash and recycling lobby wipe down tables sweep and mop the floor front register Drive-Thru even in the summer and in the winter and in the late winter and early spring while also wearing a headset and going to the sink while washing the "dishes" making the sandwiches working the friers while making the fries and filet O'fish and chicken McNuggets and going to the refrigerator and carring the boxes of fries while loading the fry hopper and the 10/1 regular and 4/1 quarter meats for the Double Quarter Pounders and the chicken and fish and the milkshake and ice cream mixes and loading the shake machine and I never had a girlfriend the whole time and not ever before that for food safety and still never since in case that I might work there again. And I worked from 11am-7pm from July 1996 till September 1998 and when I was a starter and from September 1998 through January 2004 while there was this playoffs Eagles and green Bay Packers game I was working from about 5:00 PM until after close which was about midnight and then clean up and in the summer was sometimes close at 2 or 3 am and I wasn't ever allowed to have any Happy meal Toys and in the almost 8 years I only got 2 Hot Wheels and one was a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse and the other was a Number 94 McDonalds stock car and that it. That's All Folks!

I'm a good looking guy and I was working the cash register and there was the math on the cash register and after the change was presented and I entered the total and their change they would pull out a coin and say do the small change math in your head and when they ordered an extra value meal with a soda after they paid and then they wanted a milkshake instead which costs more and there was always a manager standing there like a dumb cow in cattle while a customer was yelling at me and they were listening while in some kind of acid REM and if I got them involved they would've said to me "You're fired!" so I always handled the customer complaints myself while the manager was standing there like a dumb idiot. I even had some of those male Philadelphia Italians threaten to kill me and some of the drive thru car people would throw coins at me and everybody threatened me for being Half-Jewish and I had revcieved many death threats and my name is Daniel Neubauer which is unlike Ronald McDonald and they thought I was Superman both the Neitchie and the DC Comics super hero and I was working at night as crew and I never once in over 7 years ever had an armed robbery

It also seems clear there are drugs in the food based on Dan's comments. Why don't the whiners just
eat where the food is already the way they want it to be? I won't try to change you and you should leave others alone, including businesses. The people who invested in the business get to run it the way they want and you should open your own restaurant with all of the changes you suggest and see if you can stay open with all of the people who want to eat like you supporting you? There may be a reason these restaurants serve what they do. It is because they serve food that(other) people obviously want. What a concept. Free Enterprise.

When the government is telling businesses what they have to serve ( what we can eat) How we can run our business( smoking or non-smoking) It is our choice we own the business if a non-smoker doesn't want to enter then so be it. If someone doesn't want to eat transfat so be it. But I have no choice when I get on the road when there have been people drinking that is socially acceptable, they even drink and drive and put their kids in the car. Although every time I get on the road with my kids or they get on the school bus they are at risk of being killed by second hand drinking. How long does it take for a kid to be killed from transfat or second hand smoking 80 years? Second hand drinking they die instantly. Where are the governments priorities? They tell us what doctors we can see. Remember when we had insurance and we could see any doctor and go to any hospital. That changed. Think about it we are changing to a communist government. When you you can't choose your doctors, your food, or how to run your businesses.
