I know it sounds like a new music sensation that's sweeping the nation, but Hot Fudge Salsa is actually a recipe I found in Gentlemen, Start Your Ovens, by Tucker Shaw (Shaw also wrote Everything I Ate, a book where he photographed and wrote about every single meal he had for a year). It has "salsa" in the title, but this involves ice cream, chocolate, and peanuts. Full recipe after the jump.
Hot Fudge Salsa
4 tablespoons butter (1/2 stick)
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
1/2 tsp chile powder
1/2 cup chopped dried cherries
4 oz. frozen gourmet chocolate bar, smashed into pieces
handful of red Spanish peanuts
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar, stirring until dissolved. Add condensed milk and whisk until smooth. Simmer for two minutes then remove from the heat and stir in the semi-sweet chocolate.
Pour into bowl to cool slightly. Add chile powder, cherries, frozen gourmet chocolate pieces and peanuts, then spoon over ice cream. Serve with butter cookies.
