The on going battle to hide ones drinking habits has one more player, and apparently police are not happy about that. It's a new product called Antipoleez, and it claims to totally neutralize the smell of your breath. The company says that the product does not cover up odors, but eliminates them. Kind of like a Febreeze for your mouth. The product website claims that Antipoleez isn't just for alcohol breath, and there is a scrolling banner that tells any prospective customer to not drink and drive. However, with a name like Antipoleez, you know that their target market are those who want to hide the fact that they've been drinking. No matter how marketers want to appear responsible on a website, police are afraid this sends the wrong message to kids.
Personally, products with names and advertising this garish put me off anyway. I also assume that any product sold for cheap in a convenience store could not possible deliver on their promises. But who knows, maybe Antipoleez does neutralize your breath. Has anyone else seen this, and do you know anything about it?

Haha we've come a long way since the 'penny in your mouth' technique!

This may neutralize the smell of your breath, but will not remove the alcohol content. In otherwords, you'd still fail a breathalyser if you took one.
BTW - we debunked the 'penny in the mouth' technique way back in high school chem class. Apparently it could actually work... if the penny was a couple of thousand degrees. In which case a drunk driving conviction would be the least of your problems. :)

These products do not actually work - the Breathalyzer does not check for odors. The alcohol in your blood stream actually exchanges/equilibrates with the air in your lungs across the thin membrane so the Breathalyzer is actually checking gaseous alcohol content. No way to fool it, except by having less alcohol in your bloodstream.

I think the intent is to neutralize the smell of your breath so the officer who pulls you over won't smell the alcohol. The odor of alcohol is a major tipoff for the cops and lets them know to initiate the breathalyzer test to begin with. It won't fool a breathalyzer test, but it might fool the cop into not thinking you're drunk and need to be field tested.
Or so I assume.
