Starbuck's new Pike Place roast
As you may have heard, after years of growth that kept them on track for world domination, in recent months global coffee phenomenon Starbucks suddenly hit a few stumbling blocks. Back in February, they closed their stores and retrained their employees on how to make the perfect shot of espresso. Yesterday, in response to critics who say that their beans are over-roasted, they introduced a new roast called Pike Place, named after the iconic market in Seattle, the city where they first started out.
They handed out free samples of this new roast yesterday at 12 noon to passersby and have scattered free coffee cards in daily newspapers all across the country. The clip you see above is from Mahalo Daily and in it, they capture reactions to the new coffee from Starbucks.
Have you tried the new roast? If you have, what do you think?

There is really nothing too noteworthy about it, which is exactly what I am looking for in my first cup of coffee in the morning. It's not too strong or weak and there is no confusing tastes. The burnt taste of the rest of their coffees is not present. On a scale of 1-10, it is definitely a 7.5, making it among the better coffees readily available. This being said, I will still stick with my own french pressed coffee in the morning.
Cheers.

But like Paul, I'll still make my own first.

It's a cross between Sumatra's flavors and Columbian's richness. I'd put it up there with their Sumatra and last year's Christmas blend.

The Pike Place roast has been around for years. At least in the Seattle area, for example, they return it annually like spawning salmon.
Put a bow on it, tell the world how new it is, and suddenly your desperate-for-attention strategy has something else to talk about.
If this kind of cry for attention came from a person, I'd be calling the suicide hotline right about now.

I think Startbucks popularity is on a downhill slide. To spark more interests, they may need to move towards products that may not be a coffee product. It should be interesting how things pan out for Starbucks.
Thank you for letting me share...

I despise starbucks, and this was no exception.
Burnt railroad tie flavor, dirt, and little else.
I have yet to have a decent cup of coffee from starbucks, and only try it when someone else buys(and they say free always tastes better)
I don't even see how the pikes place blend could even be called coffee, it was as if they took the recycled grounds they use for compost and brewed a fresh pot.
I would rather drink Folgers or Sanka.
