Let's be real here. Going out for breakfast is a luxury because no other meal costs more for what you get. However, even during these recession times, the luxury of going out itself is best had at breakfast because a $9 plate of eggs and toast is still cheaper than a $20 dinner.
Justification for my love of breakfast dining aside, Men.Style.com has culled together a list of the 15 Best Places in America for Breakfast. I've not been to most of these places (obviously, since who has time to travel that much?!?!) but I was glad to see that some place in Los Angeles made the list. Of course, the best place in LA for breakfast is Toast, in my opinion. Take a peek at the list and if your city was left off, what's the best place for breakfast in your neck of the woods?
- Becky's, Portland, Maine
- Florida Ave. Grill, Washington, D.C.
- Barney Greengrass, New York City
- Hominy Grill, Charleston, South Carolina
- Al's Breakfast, Minneapolis
- Mei Lai Wah Coffee House, New York City
- Lou Mitchell's, Chicago
- Square One Dining, Los Angeles
- Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
- Taco Taco Café, San Antonio
- Café Des Amis, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana
- Canteen, San Francisco
- Simpatica Dining Hall, Portland, Oregon
- Kelley's Country Cookin', Houston, Texas
- Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe, Boston

I had the best breakfast of my life at Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe (#15) in Boston: a steak and cheese omelette.

There's a local bistro (Indianapolis) called Petite Chou that serves the best breakfasts I've ever had. My personal favorite being the croissant french toast with powdered sugar and nuts with a side of fruit. And their muffins are to amazing.

Mmmmm, Al's. I haven't been there in forever... The whole place is 10 feet wide, with just 14 stools at the counter. I had really good blueberry pancakes there when I went. Definitely need to get back over there and soon...

Toast isn't even close to being the best breakfast spot in LA. Unless by best breakfast spot you mean, "Best place to wait in line for too long and listen to the waitresses talking on their cell phones to their agents while they should be warming up your coffee."
Way better:
- S & W Country Diner in Culver City
- Bluebird Cafe and Bakery in Culver City
- Nick's Diner on Pico (just West of La Cienega) in LA
- Pacific Dining Car
- Marmelade Cafe (three locations that I know of)
Seriously, Toast? Come on.

Wha? Breakfast too expensive? Get thee to a diner, missy. There are some great ones still out there in which a whole breakfast will only set you back about 7 bucks.
I'm all about going to fine dining establishments but in terms of "getting what you pay for" deal, you really can go to some lowly places for bfast and get some killer meals...
