- He thought he was heading towards Alice Waters' landmark restaurant, Chez Panisse, but instead Chef Marco Shaw of NE Portland's Fife Restaurant found himself captured by the relative ease and peace of Portland (not to mention a thriving restaurant scene).

It's true that a) many Jewish-style delis serve Reuben sandwiches, and b) many Jews don't keep strictly kosher. But when this paper refers to a dish made with corned beef and cheese as a "Jewish quesadilla," they're missing a pretty big point.

Um, I think you mean the "Grand Central Bakery" not "Grand Central Baking". There's one downstairs of my office here in Seattle, and they do have good bread, although I have never had the Irish Soda Bread (available March 15-17 only). But the rest of their food is very expensive.

Oooooo, Irish soda bread, I loooove that stuff. Made some for a cast/crew party of a play I was working on a number of years ago - it was gone within a half hour. Good thing I doubled up on the recipe and kept a loave to myself! :D
Huh... maybe I should find the recipe I used and do it again. It has been a while. I'm salivating already!
