I've never really used an egg cup. To me it's almost as bizarre a kitchen accessory as the bygone ice cream fork. Apparently there are folks out there who feel differently about egg cups. Witness the military-themed egg cup I ran across the other night.It's available online from Boys to Men, a site that sells everything from a brain-shaped mouse to a memory stick designed to look like a twig. My guess is that it's designed to tap into nostalgia for green army men. Personally I'd like to see a few of the minesweeper guys surrounding the egg.
I'm not sure how many people are going to pony up $21.99 for this unique piece of tableware, but it's certainly worth visiting Boys to Men if only to read the catalog copy. "They are working hard to protect the egg but one after another, the bread soldiers just keep coming. How will it end?" Oh, the humanity!

Apparently, you've never used an ice-cream fork. I have a set, and they're ideal for eating ice cream---as they naturally would be, since they're designed for that purpose. Don't knock what you haven't tried.

I love ice cream forks! My parents have them as part of our fancy silver, and I use them every chance I get. They're ideal for pie or cake a la mode. Also, they're just amusing for eating in general. I hope one day to inherit them.
Also, I like to irritate my mom by referring to them as sporks. She doesn't like it, I don't know why.

"Eggs and soldiers" is a British euphemism for a soft boiled egg and toast strips, the holder is a play on words.
I love egg cups, how else do you stand your egg up to dip toast strips into it?

Lighten up!! As KC has explained the British have 'soldiers' for their breakfast, strips of toast dipped into a soft boiled egg. Therefore making this Egg Cup a very clever design.
