Last summer there was a press release that came out with little fanfare. Starbucks and Hershey's had decided to team up, with the chocolate giant creating confections for the coffee giant. The marriage finally came to fruition this week with a new line of chocolate delights sporting a Starbucks logo. I have a really hard time thinking of anything coming from this pairing as good, but, then, I haven't tried the chocolates. The team over at Yumsugar has, though, and they were only too happy to give us all a review. It turns out that the line of sweets isn't so bad. The line includes "six different tasting squares, four truffles, three chocolate bars and covered coffee beans." Apparently the beans were the best part, but the truffles got good reviews too. The bars were better then the tasting squares, though, which doesn't make sense to me.
I'm still having trouble getting a handle on this. Has anyone else had a chance to try the Starbucks line of chocolates? What did you think?

Hello! I said that the bars were better than the tasting squares, only because there was something to sink your teeth into. The bars are about 3x thicker than the squares. They're definitely worth trying, but i think the best way to sum it up is the coffee infused ones are pretty good and the tea infused ones are avoidable. The chocolate itself is better than the waxy Hershey's line (they're using the "artisan" line, but I don't know if it's scharffen berger chocolate or not). anyone have a clue?

It sounds like a diabetics nightmare. I'll have to continue avoiding Starbucks and enjoy my guilty pleasures through your blogs and reviews. Keep writing about the goodies, please.

I saw the Starbuck's truffles at Sam's Club this past weekend, but they only had Caramel Macchiato, strangely a flavor not mentioned by the review. They looked really good, but for $20 we could not justify, as two college students, trying them. Hopefully they will be sampling them next time we go back!

There's more to the line than what was featured in the YumSugar review (the Caramel Macchiato Truffles = one example).
From what I've seen, the bars and tasting squares are produced in Berkeley, CA -- so I believe they're coming off the Scharffen Berger line. The chocolate flavors and textures are light years from a Hershey Bar! My favorites so far are the Mocha Dark Chocolate (with bits of Starbucks Casi Cielo beans) and the Passion Dark Chocolate (with bits of Tazo Passion tea leaves and a LOT of berry/flowery notes).
The Starbucks chocolates are in our local grocery stores.
