When newer is better: Special K Cinnamon Pecan

A box of Special K Cinnamon PecanMy mom is a health freak, so cereal was always a dessert food in my house. I spent days dreaming about the one bowl of Captain Crunch or Lucky Charms that night would bring. Though cereal is still one of my favorite post-dinner snacks, I love when I find one healthy enough that I don't feel completely guilty eating it all day. And I really mean ALL day.

Hello, Special K Cinnamon Pecan -- the new, most delicious addition to the Special K line. I've loved Special K cereals before, most recently, fruit and yogurt. But this new variety floored me. You know how the "nuts" in most cereals are mostly in pieces, if you can find them at all? Not the case with Special K -- I find real-live half pecans in my bowl. The cinnamon is swirly on light and crispy flakes, and the cereal tastes killer both with milk and by the handful.

Now I'm not exactly losing 6 pounds in 2 weeks (the Special K challenge) because I can go through about a box per day with soy milk, but I'm sure you can eat this cereal in a healthy manner as well. It's only 120 calories per 3/4 cup, which is pretty good for something so tasty. Check it out.

The front of the box is the hype. The back of the box are the facts. Turn the box over if you want to make your mother happy.

Good luck.

It may not be super healthy, but considering the plethora of opportunities to botch a healthy diet during any given breakfast, this is only a minor slip-up relatively speaking. The cereal is delicious, I've bought about two boxes in the past month, and have enjoyed it tremendously. All things in moderation, including moderation.

I do realize how sugar-laden these are and find it amusing and odd that it's marketed as a "diet food". It's the lesser of many evils and way tastier. Special K is good as snack food.
