Freschetta PizzAmore

PizzAmoreI've been seeing these commercials for the new Freschetta PizzAmore. It comes pre-sliced and the ads promise that it tastes just like one that you'd get in a pizzeria.

Um, it doesn't.

I had high hopes for this, because I like the regular Freschetta pizza. I learned two things from making it: one, you have to absolutely make sure that your oven is pre-heated, even more than usual. If not, the top will be done and the bottom will be raw. And two, you can't really buy a frozen pizza that's better than the best takeout. This is "passable," in that "I love pizza so much I'll eat any kind" sort of way, but it still tastes kinda blah. Not enough sauce, and the cheese has that bland, taste you get on so many frozen pizzas, especially if you're not careful and you overcook it just a touch (the pizza comes with it's own baking tray). Also, the box says that there are two different types of pepperoni on the top, regular and spicy, but I don't really taste any difference. The pizza isn't bad, it's just nothing special.

So, if I have to go with frozen pizza, I'll get my favorites: Mystic Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, DiGiornio's, Stouffers French Bread, and Freschetta original.

On the topic of pizzas from your grocer's freezer section, however, California Pizza Kitchen's Crispy Thin Crust Sicilian pizza is pretty darned good, although a bit pricey.

I was really disappointed because that first one was REALLY good... obviously enough to take two more chances on it!! I don't know what the deal was but the first time the crust came out perfect, and those other two times, it was soggy-ish and blech.

Also, being pre-sliced makes it convenient for using leftovers for "pizza-sandwiches". I get two pieces of cold pizza and put them face to face and stick it into my panini press. The crust comes out really nice and crispy. very delicious.

It was awful. It was one of the worst frozen pizzas I have ever had.

It was bland and greasy. Even Tony's pizza was better than this one. This is one frozen pizza I'd pass over even at $3.

This consumer group is always high and enjoys food that require low activity on their part. This leaves them more time to sit on couches and contemplate the realities of parallel universe theory.

Pre-sliced. Dude, amazing.... Not dirtying a pan with burny-melty cheese and crumbs.... sweet. Throw away all the mess when your done! HAllaleugah!!!!

I put olive oil on a metal cooking sheet and put the pieces tight against each other on it. That makes a crisp crust. Original is still better than this product.

My kids love it beacuse they're tired of my pizza ! Plus there's no oven or bake tray mess, heck you dont even need a pizza wheel - its the ultimate in convience with flavor to match.

This sounded so good, and even though it might sound lazy, it sure was convenient that the pizza was already sliced! (Why not? It's already assembled and frozen -- cutting it was the next step.)

But I digress.

I tried the six-cheese version that they sell at Sam's Club.

Even though the pan turned out a pretty good crust (for frozen), the sauce was far too bland.

And I'm sorry, but when I see the words "six cheeses", I'm thinking, "ooh, cheesy!!!", not SKIMPY. I couldn't really taste six different kinds, but there wasn't enough there in the first place.

Disappointed.
