Valentine lollipop recall

If you thought we were going to get through this candy-giving holiday unscathed, sadly, you were mistaken. Sherwood Brands of Maryland, which imported the candy from China, says that it is recalling all of its Pokemon Valentine Cards and Pops, because a couple of pops have been found to contain metal pieces (a staple and part of a razor blade). While the metal fragments have only been found in Central Florida, the pops have been pulled off shelves nationwide.

So far the tainted pops have all been purchased at Dollar General stores. Officials say that they do not appear to have been tampered with and that the metal fragments were baked into the candies when they were first made. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries.

Patrick- The lollipop with the piece of metal was found on Wednesday night, the night before V'day. The store had the product off the shelves first thing the next day and the company issued a recall immediately. So there's nothing convenient about it. Just an exceptionally speedy response. Faster than I have ever seen before to tell you the truth, and for only two lollipops that have been found with small metal fragments.

They weren't the only candy company to have a recall right before V'day. See's did as well.

I live in NC and my son received one of these confections from school. Luckily he did not pick that one to eat when he got home. We look through his candy and found one of the recalled kinds. I checked the web and it has the same shape and wrapper type. We found a small black dot inside this one when we held it up to a strong light source. So FL is not the only case and I expect to see more and more about in the days to come.
