Coming Soon: Food Network, The Magazine?

Food Network logoThere has been talk in the past few months that several staff members of Every Day with Rachael Ray were being hired by another company to fill up slots for a competing magazine. Now it looks like those rumors might be true.

Portfolio is reporting that Hearst and Scripps are going to team up with Food Network to create a new food and lifestyle magazine based on the network. This is still in the planning stages, so it's not clear what TV personalities (if any) will be involved and what format/frequency the magazine would take, though obviously Rachael Ray won't be involved.

So...would you read a Food Network magazine, or do you think the network has changed so much that it wouldn't have anything you'd be interested in?

2-02-2008 @11:25AM Lewis said... I am curious what they could possibly write about. A magazine can't have it's own band...WAIT!!! I know, since they can't call it the Rachel Ray Magazine (already done) they are probably going to call it the Paula Deen Magazine or Jamie Oliver magazine.

Either way probably not readable. Like their blog.

Since I don't watch FoodTV because it is so banal, I cannot imagine reading a magazine put out by them.

I used to watch the network all the time, years ago, but it has just gotten ridiculously boring and filled with fluff and tripe.

2-02-2008 @3:54PM Bernie B said... If done properly, it could probably sell well. Think of having the straight recipe from aired episodes in print without all the fluff. People would buy that.

However, if they try to incorporate Rachel and Giada's Travel stories, I will light fire to them on the magazine rack.

2-02-2008 @4:16PM Tom said... its all about the who. If its heavy on AB and Jamie Olvier type content then it could be useful and worth while. But if its driven by the rest of the garbage on the network (bobby flay) then it'll be completely useless. I enjoy AB alot but like lots of folks I think he's about the only redeming thing on the network now (although Jamie at Home shows a good bit of promise) I guess we're just going to wait to see who/what they put in it. But the work "lifestyle" in the post doesn't make me optimistic

I would not purchase their magazine unless there was some gratuitous nudity involving Giada!
