What do you do if you're in the Australian outback and have a feral camel problem? You start a camel meat business, of course. That's what Garry Dann did. He started Territory Camel to help deal with the feral camels in the area, and he's even begun getting feral camels from other parts of Australia brought to his processing plant. This has the added benefit of employing large numbers of indigenous people.Territory Camel mainly makes camel steaks and sausages. For now their products are sold only in Australia, though Mr. Dann is trying to get tier 1 accreditation from Australian Quarantine Inspection Service. That would allow him to pursue an export market, mainly to Middle Eastern Countrys where camel meat is more acceptable.
A spokesman for the company said that, while getting people to try the camel meat is a challenge, once the hurdle has been jumped the "yuck factor is dispelled". They say that camel meat actually tastes like beef, so much so that even experienced cattlemen can't tell the difference. Not only that, but the meat is also low in cholesterol. This sounds like another strange food on my list of things to try. Yum!

Looking forward to the new "Humpback Steakhouse" chain to open up. Yum.
Me: "I'd like a steak, please, medium rare."
Waiter: "One hump or two?"
Me: "Err... BBQ chicken, thanks."

So what? Why are some people okay with eating some animals, but squeamish about eating others?
I don't see anything wrong with camel meat at all.
Actually, I prefer ostrich and emu to beef any day of the week - ostrich burgers are everything you've ever wished a real hamburger tasted like.

I had a camel burger years ago at Kings Canyon Station in the Australian outback.
Very tasty, and low in fat and cholesterol.

With my heart problems camel sounds like a low-cholesterol alternative to beef that I could get down with. Pass me a filet, please. Medium rare.

You people are horrible to even think about eating a camel. Just because you think it tasts like steak you can just go and eat it. They're just not ment to be eaten. I'm sure you think it's okay to eat horses and you don't care about dogs, cats and other animals. People eat dogs and cats too. We need to draw a line to what we should eat. I bet you're all fat too. I know you're all sick...Go on a diet, eat veggies. They're better for you..

WOW Andiey!
Is there a diff between a cow, a fish, a chicken, a pig and a camel?
Draw the line? A steer is ok but not a camel?
Get a grip!
Does anyone know how they go with A- steak sauce?

Of course someone would bring religion into this. It's a pathetic move that gets thrown around in EVERY conversation in order to make a person feel OK about the choices they make. "God" forbid they actually debate using their own mind, nope, that's asking too much, that's far too difficult ... "Well, the bible says so, so it must be ok" is a much easier alternative. Give me a break!
Soo, bible beaters, if your God put everything here for our use, why isn't it OK for me to go next door, gut my neighbor, and cut me up a nice human filet? You want to talk about the ridiculousness of drwing a line ("what's the different between a cow and a camel" I think the retort was)... Well, then, what's the difference between a cow and a human? Both animals, right? And your argument is all animals should be "USED" equally, right? That's they way your God made us, right?
Nothing but a bunch of hypocrites!

Meat is meat. You can't not eat one and eat the other. Or you can, but don't condemn others who do.

In India Cows are but we eat them, in the US DOgs and Cats are members or our family but in China they eat dogs and Cats. The Majority of Live stock in this country and Australia is raised and Slaughtered inhumanely, so Im very sorry to hear someone is thinking about slaughtering Camels too. Think about what our lives would be like it we weren't at the top of the food chain.. Therefore, don't eat them!

God didnt mean for us to eat everything he gave us to use. There is a differance if your too shallow to understand that. People need to know the facts. If you know them and still do something then thats on you. WE use alot of things we cant eat, or shouldnt anyway.

Perhaps you should stop eating then. Ripping those helpless veggies out of the ground as they're screaming....ooohh, help me, help me!
No-one's thumping a bible. What makes a camel more important than a chicken or a fish?
Unless you ride a camel to work everyday I guess?
What a pathetic loser.
Pass the A-1 please!
