Man, the Asian countries have it so good.
First we hear about Dunkin Donuts going to Shanghai and offering things like honeydew flavored doughnuts, then we find out that Costco in Taiwan is pretty much the picture of bulk Asian food awesomeness. (I didn't even know that Costco was anywhere except the United States).
Teczcape documented a trip to Costco in Taiwan, and though the ridiculously long lines at the rotisserie chicken counter and the requirement that all payments are made in cash are nothing to envy, I couldn't help but covet the bulk bags of kimchi (in the picture, lower left bag in the cart). It's Costco, so who knows about the quality of the kimchi, but at least it's not Kirkland brand!

And it's a good example of the sad state of isolation we are in here when we actually get excited about scoring a can of "HORRIBLE!!!" Kirkland coffee and a block of cheese.

Geez... mothers-in-law ain't doin' their jobs. Even *we* make our own kimchi before resorting to Costco.

I haven't eaten kimchi in a while, but that brand has some types of kimchi that taste pretty good...I don't really remember which ones though. The lady who sells it at the market I like going to has several different ones.. It's definitely not costco/kirkland though.
@ZenKimchi, who has the patience to spend a good hour or two making kimchi?!?! I watched my mother make it once, and it took her FOREVER. She was working pretty fast, but the time it took to just merely rinse and cut all of the veggies and to prepare all the other ingredients was crazy. However, unlike store-bought brand and most restaurants, she put in stuff like asian pear and raw oysters in there, tasted soooo good.

They have lots of it here in Tokyo, I admit, there are little home-style bakeries on every corner it seems, but it's just so rotten expensive for a slice of heaven. Costco supplies full cakes and pumpkin pies, amazing. (No I can't bake a pie myself, ovens do not exist for 99% of Tokyo residents, but there is such thing as rice-cooker banana bread: amazing as well)

Including giant bags of frozen dumplings and gyoza in a ton of varieties... these days just check to make sure they're not from China ; )

There's Costco in Mexico and even though they stock basically the same things US Costcos have, people living in the border with Mexico will go to both, due to the Mexico Costco having better things than the US one. Wish I could tell you what it is that's different. ha.
