Happy Birthday Mozilla Firefox! You're ten years old now. Well, almost, technically. Even though the Mozilla project wasn't launched officially until February 1998, it was ten years on January 22 that Netscape Communications Corporation announced that it intended to release the source code for its next browser, Netscape Communicator 5.0. It was still in development, but that was the beginning of Mozilla Firefox. We love Firefox and so decided to celebrate the birth of this fantastic web browser with a birthday cake of its own. Because everyone/thing loves cake! I made a delicious chocolate cake, very moist, dark and rich. The icing is a swiss buttercream so it's nice, silky and not too sweet. Everyone enjoyed a nice big piece after we wished Mozilla a very happy birthday! Here's to ten more great years, Firefox.

The problem is that it was OVER FOUR YEARS until the Mozilla Foundation released a usable browser. In the meantime, Microsoft came in and ate up almost 100% of the browser share for Windows users, which back then was almost 100% anyway.
The real anniversary should be June 5, 2002 for the Mozilla 1.0 release. And even then Mozilla 1.0 wasn't that great of a product. It took Firefox to branch off the mozilla code and come along in November 2004 to really start to make inroads to IE's share.
Thanks to Firefox, IE does not have a stranglehold on the Web. Sure, IE is still the most used browser, but Firefox has a respectable following now, to the point that websites consider them in their development.

I didn't actually link to any recipes. swiss buttercream is pretty easy. Cream 1lb unsalted butter, 8oz shortening, and 10oz powdered sugar. Set that aside. Over a double boiler, heat 3oz of pasteurized egg whites and 6oz of granulated sugar until there are no more sugar crystals. It'll be hot to the touch but don't over cook the mixture. Take the egg white/sugar mixture off the heat and put it on a stand mixer with a whip attachment. Whip it until the bowl is cool to the touch.It'll still be soft peak when it's ready. Add the creamed butter/sugar a little at a time until everything is well blended. It should be nice and creamy. When I cooked the egg whites and sugar, I found it was easier to put them into the mixing bowl and put that over the boiling water instead of dirtying up extra bowls.
