This cup is not a paper cup

i am not a paper cup
If you pay any attention at all to celebrities or fashion or celebrity fashion, then you might know something about Anya Hindmarch's "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" bag that created quite a mad rush when they hit US stores. Many designers took advantage of the cheeky eco message, some simply creating more re-usable shopping bags, and others taking and tweaking the "I'm not a ___" message, like Decor Craft Inc., which has created the "I Am Not a Paper Cup" cup. Naturally, coffee mugs are reusable, but DCi's "I Am Not a Paper Cup" reminds coffee drinkers that even when taking coffee to go, you can help the eco cause by not using the disposable paper cups that will end up in landfill somewhere. The cups are porcelain with a silicone lid

I don't know -- kilns are huge energy hogs...the amount of energy that goes into turning clay to porcelain is quite alot...I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a whole lot of paper cups to equal the same amount of energy consumption as a porcelain cup (not including the increased energy cost to transport etc.)

You're likely being more enviro friendly by tossing the paper cup in the recyling bin and allowing it to live again as tomorrow's newspaper

The lid looks like the thin plastic top with the same shape hole for drinking but it has a closure inside that seals it off.

Cute and funny and very, very REUSE/recycle/do without.

The paper cups in use at coffee shops are not recyclable, thanks to the plastic lining attached to the paper - which keeps the liquid from soaking through. As they sit in the landfill, the adhesives release methane. Believe it or not, styrofoam is not the evil choice we once thought, when you take the entire amount of energy used to produce and ship it into account. (Paper cups are waaaay heavier, for example.)

As far as the minimum impact, a ceramic reusable is your best choice - at least according to what I've read. Uses less resources to produce than the aluminum or s/s varieties, and reusables are infinitely better than single-use (provided you remember to take them with you, of course, and don't leave them on your seat on the train ;)
