Here it is just a few hours from the start of New Year's Eve and I suddenly realize that I don't have anything to eat tonight. Well, OK, I do have plenty of food in the house I could have, but I haven't made any plans to make any special meal or order Chinese food or anything else. I sort of just woke up today, went to the store to buy some soap, and then came home. I have no idea what I'm having for dinner tonight. It just might be chicken soup.
I have the liquid part of the evening all set though. I'm planning on gin and tonics for the evening, or perhaps Negronis if I get a little adventurous. I also have a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon if I'm in the mood for that.
What are you eating and drinking tonight? Are you planning a special meal or something easy to make or are you ordering take out? Are you popping champagne at midnight?

"Homemade" pizza with Pillsbury in the can pizza dough, roasted garlic tomato sauce (sadly out of a bottle), sundried tomatoes in olive oil (Costco), black olives, Canadian bacon, low moisture moz, and real parma cheese. That is dinner. Then, popping a Lindeman Cuvee Rene Lambic first (the most suitable malt based champagne sub--a spontaneously fermented Belgian wheat based ale product), then to offset the casky dusty dryness of the unfruited lambic, a Lindeman Cassis (casky and sweet berry based) "lambic". Both "pop" with a cork, so it is ok.

First we're having grilled rib eye (donald trump) steaks and tater tots. During the evening we'll have homemade chex party mix, apple pie (homemade), cheese crackers, salamis, russian caviar and sparkling wine. Sparkling grape juice for the kids. If I'm adventurous I may make homemade zeppoli, that's about it...

I had a tooth extracted this morning, so I'm on a soft food/no alcohol diet for two days. BAD timing!
Made one of my favorite comfort foods, Baked Potato Soup (JUST like Panera's) so that, plus vanilla pudding and water comprises my New Year's Eve repast.
Born to be wild.
I don't drink, so the no alcohol thing isn't SO terrible, but I think I WOULD have liked a little split of Asti to bring in the new year. And maybe some steamed shrimp ... and steak and a Croquembouche or some of my homemade macaroons.
Next year.
Happy New Year to everyone at Slashfood!

As is my accidental New-Year's tradition, I'm making a big baked lasagna Bolognese from scratch. This year, for dessert, I'm making madeleines and herbal tea to drink, as my wife is with child and thus not boozing. Back to sauce-making!

Salmon stuffed tomatoes, basil pesto pasta, local rhubarb wine, baguette (which I'm snacking on right now since supper was hours ago), and for dessert I bought a fancy piece of cake from the grocery store bakery.

I don't celebrate on New Year's Eve, but instead fix something exceptional for the first day of the new year. This evening I'll be making fondue and accompanying it with homemade pork confit and duck rillettes. I'll be posting about it after I make (and photograph) it this evening at http://seriouslygood.kdweeks.com.
