"Oh my god! They want how much for that piece of chocolate?!?!"I'm not sure how many of us have actually stood indignantly in a grocery store aisle screaming the above statement since a Hershey bar is usually under a dollar, but if you have, you might be justified.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the US Justice Department is looking into possible price fixing in the chocolate industry. The Justice Department's anti-trust division has contacted Mars (makers of M&Ms and, duh, Mars Bars), Nestle, and Cadbury. Representatives from both Mars and Nestle said they will cooperate with the investigation, though a Cadbury spokeswoman had no comment.
Damn! And I love those Cadbury Creme Eggs at Easter, too!

They were my favorite at one time--and I was the ultimate chocoholic--but as an adult I developed a horrible reaction to chocolate. I haven't eaten so much as a single M&M in over 18 years.
Melinda - Hershey's was not the company that made Mars bars - that was M&M/Mars (now Masterfoods). They are still produced in Europe and also distributed in the US as Snickers Almond - same product with more marketing power in the Snickers brand name.
PS - DOVE is THE BEST quality commercial chocolate you can get for a decent price. Heat a cup of skim milk and drop 3 Dove DARK Promises in it - makes an AWESOME cup of hot cocoa!!! :o)

Personally I would rather pay the higher price for one (1) single Cadbury Milk Chocolate bar or a Dove Bar than buy a regular Hershey Milk chocoalte bar at 3/1.00 which is usually the sale price at the local convienance store. Of the high priced chocolates, Godiva sucks, but anything by Harry & David... OMG... it is so worth the price.
Just one chocolate junkie's opinion.

chocolate. Chocolate is made from cocoa bean or fruit.
Like all commodities, it comes in grades.
Supermarket grades tend to be on the lower, econo end of the scale.
The finest bars come from Germany. Expect to pay several dollars for one.
Any of them in the "gold foil" sell for 5 dollars or more.
The German exporters only ship during the cool months- October through March.
Unless you have tried one of the gold foil bars, you haven't tasted the real thing.
