Bring some pig candy to your next Christmas party

candy bacon from Laughing Squid

Sarah has already showed you chocolate chip cookies topped with bacon, so why not something called Pig Candy?

It comes from Bucky's Barbecue and Bread, and they suggest that you serve it as an appetizer at your next Christmas party. Basically, it's strips of bacon covered in dark brown sugar and cayenne, cooked in an over, grill or in a smoker.

I have this filed under "Appetizers" but I guess you could try it for breakfast too.

(peppermint candies in the shape of pigs that were served at traditional Victorian meals and broken into pieces for good luck)

After reading this post though, I must say that I think I'd much prefer candy in the SHAPE of a pig, rather than being a candy made FROM a pig.

Ewwwww.

I served it to friends this weekend and I wasn't too happy with it. It was totally edible, and the first few bites were interesting. I think that's pretty faint praise for a bacon recipe though. I wouldn't serve it for breakfast again, but integrating it into an appetizer might work.

I had Praline Bacon (very similar to pig candy) for the first time at Grits and Groceries (http://www.gritsandgroceries.com/), a WONDERFUL restaurant almost in middle of nowhere in South Carolina. Oh my goodness, that stuff was ridiculously good. As is everything else I've had there.
