Best city for food isn't Paris

shibucho sashimi
White tablecloths, outstanding service, and the flakiest croissants that'll ever melt in your mouth. You'd think Paris would be the Best City in the World for food, wouldn't you?

Especially when it's Frenchman Jean-Luc Naret, director of the Michelin Guide, confirming the choice, right?

Nope. The best city for food is half-way around the world, Tokyo, Japan, which won 191 total stars, twice the number awarded to Paris, and more than three times the number awarded to New York.

Additionally, eight restaurants in Tokyo won top honors of three stars, whereas Paris had six. As if stars weren't enough, three of the eight three-star winning restaurants in Tokyo serve French food. Guess you're flying to Asia if you want to do a foodie tour!

It's about how MANY good restaurants a city has, with all the stars added up. Tokyo has a lot of great restaurants, so they win. Providence and Vegas people, take a chill pill!

I can imagine it must be difficult to keep your weight down, but if you ate half of what you are now eating you'd be better off both physically and mentally.

How could backwaters like Providence, New Orleans, or Portland even begin to compare with what is possibly the most sophisticated city on the planet? I can personally attest that Tokyo makes both New York and and Paris seem subpar in almost all regards, but particularly in the area of fine dining. I'm afraid your comments are simply based in ignorance as you've obviously never visited the city. Even when it comes to casual dining, I've frankly had better beignets and gumbo in the Japanese capital than I have in your beloved New Orleans.
