Last night I had some people over for dinner. Despite the fact that I got a late start on the main dishes, everything turned out perfectly and a good time was had by all. The only slightly-embarrassing moment in the entire evening came when, before I could stop him, my friend's husband opened my freezer in pursuit of ice for his drink (I had forgotten to put any out).
The door open, he stood and gaped for a moment and said, " Who eats all this food?" I quickly tried to explain that I like to keep a fairly stocked freezer so that I can pull meals together easily. I also tend to have three or four varieties of nuts, some summer fruit and homemade chicken broth stashed away as well. He shrugged and said, "Often when you open our freezer, all you see in there is a bottle of Skyy Vodka."
The picture above is my very own freezer, complete with half a bag of Trader Joe's string beans, a pound of chicken legs from Whole Foods and more frozen chicken broth than you can shake a stick at. In return, I want to know, what do the rest of you have in your freezer? Please share the mundane the quirks as inquiring minds want to know (and be assured that they aren't all that strange).

I've got a few bags of nuts, a bag of frozen edamame in their shells, a few different kinds of dough (whole wheat pizza, dinner rolls, and pie crust), some unusual meats (a couple of rabbits and some venison) plus a bag of shrimp, a big container of turkey stock, a jar of mole sauce, a container of cranberry relish, and probably some other bits and bobs that I made too much of and kept around for use later.
While its not the case right now, as my other half recently finished them off, I also usually keep a couple varieties of homemade versions of your typical frozen snack food - tamales, potato skins, pierogies, and sometimes ravioli or samosas.

I was attacked by our freezer last night: bananas, lima beans, mixed vegetables, chicken pot pies, Ghirardelli chocolate bars (guilty), a rice pack for sore muscles, a mug, bags of shrimp, Thanksgiving turkey, soups, vodka sauce, jalapenos, green chile flown to New York from New Mexico by a friend, spaghetti.

Theres some pie crust, nuts, raisins, and in one corner, the meat is segregated (Hubs is vegetarian). As mandarins come into the market, they're next on the freezer trays, all destined to go to the vitamix

My freezer is full of about 20 pork chops, a pork loin, maple breakfast sausage -- I like pork, ok?, a bunch of bags of veggies, a pack of hot dogs -- beef, actually, frozen burritos, a bottle of Bailey's, two bags of pierogies, about four pounds of french fries, and about 10 pounds of chinese dumplings. Yes, some of those are pork.

Marissa - one of our (my bf and I) goals is to completely cut out supermarket processed foods from our diet - we thinks its a lot healthier and a lot more fun to make things from scratch! But its awfully hard to give up all those convenience foods, so we just started making our own :) Its a lot of fun, and the best part is that you know exactly what goes into everything you eat, and you can make everything taste exactly how you want, and whenever you want a little nosh all you have to do is pull one out of the freezer.

Frozen berries, a pie shell, way too many ice trays, gel packs for headaches, hummus, green onions, bananas. That's it. There's a lot of empty space in there right now, so I could probably put my nuts in there. Normally there is no room.

1)A couple frozen loaves of whole grain bread. I like to make my own, but sometimes I am too busy living to bake bread from scratch. I used to use my machine for this process, but it sustained a fall and I have yet to ascertain if it is still able to churn out a decent loaf.
2)Packages of frozen meats that were bought fresh in bulk and repackaged into meal sized portions.
3)Ice pops/popsicles. These need to be tossed since I know I haven't bought any since summer.. Blech!
4)Ice cream, usually a couple of varieties.
5)Ice trays
6)My liquor stash. Right now it's a bottle of Seagram's 7 destined for whiskey sours, sans egg white froth.
7)Batteries. I always heard growing up that they keep better/stay fresh longer if kept in the freezer. Don't know if that's even true, but I do it anwyays.
8)A couple cans of fruit juice concentrate.
This all sounds pretty bland and boring. I like reading about your culinary adventures, Marissa. I share your passion for vintage recipes and have my own collection which began with my great grandmother's collection.

I have the good fortune to live in an area where we have farmer's markets all year round, so I don't worry about freezing things to get myself through the winter. I've made a big effort in the past year or so to stop eating frozen food and it's going pretty well, hence the empty freezer.

1. Soup dumplings
2. IKEA meatballs
3. Ice trays
4. Kitchenaid ice cream maker bowl attachment (you never know when an ice cream emergency will arise
5. Homemade buttermilk ice cream
6. Homemade grilled peach & beer sorbet
7. A Kentucky Derby pie
8. Hangar 1 Wasabi vodka
9. Hangar 1 Chipotle vodka
10. Tito's vodka
11. Pint of Cherry Garcia (it's my husband's)
If I had a bigger freezer, I'd keep stock and a spare game bird.
My sister used to (and maybe still does) buy whole flats of blueberries in season so she'd have 'em year-round. I do that with cherries, but they never seem to last.

Kitchen freezer
- 1 lb of cooked shrimp
- 1 lb boneless pork chops
- 1 lb chicken tenders
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 baguette, cut into thirds
- 1 loaf each of white and whole wheat breads
- several 1-cup containers homemade pesto
- several 2-cup containers homemade tomatillo sauce
- frozen peas
- tilapia filets
- pine nuts
- leftover spaghetti sauce
That's all I can think of.
Small extra freezer
- 3 1 lb containers tomatillos (we had a bumper crop ;-)
- 4 2-cup containers chicken stock
- Pampered Chef appetizer tray (after it's been frozen, the bottom part keeps food cold for a long time)
- several cooler ice packs
I know there's more, but that's all I remember right now.
