Romenesko and Obscure Store and Reading Room proprietor Jim Romenesko tried to create one of those customized Starbucks cards on their web site, and it was rejected because it mentioned the StarbucksGossip site that he runs.
After submitting the card design, Romenesko got an e-mail saying that the card was rejected because it violated their personalization policy. He guesses that it was rejected because it mentioned the site on the card and Starbucks employees would check out the web site, which has insider-ish info about the site, sometimes from former and current employees. Commenters at the site seem to think it was because he mentioned the company on the card.

100% sure it is because he put the company name aka, their trademark on the card.

I know a guy who has his company logo put on Starbucks cards. He sends them -- with information promoting himself, of course -- to truly hard-to-sell potential clients. He finds that after they have had a cup of coffee on his dime, tney are much more willing to talk business.
Just my $0.02 worth, but his $5 plus the customization fee.

Totally dumb on Starbucks part.
What's that rule about never angering someone who purchases (virtual) ink by the barrel?
Anyway, since I read this on Romenesko's site, it's given me the excuse/inspiration I've need to take my money over to Dunkin Donuts.
Silly, I realize, but it's still my money until I hand it over to someone/some company. And I will always try to give it to the "less dumb" company.
