One last bam?
Mediabistro's Fishbowl NY says that Emeril Lagasse will not be returning to the Food Network after contract negotiations between him and Scripps Howard went nowhere.
Emeril will tape his last show on December 11.
So readers....are you going to miss him? I can't say I will. I really couldn't watch his show, with the bams and the live band and audience.
Update: Looks like Emeril isn't leaving the network altogether, just ending Emeril Live. He'll continue with Essence of Emeril and other projects.

Aw man. The only show of his I could stand was Emeril Live. He's so bland by himself — I really felt he truly fed off of the energy of the live band and audience.

Emril Live was where he lived. He made that network. It's sad to see him go but honestly, the network has moved on from his "brand". It's been around for years now. It would be nice to see him go like an aging pitcher in baseball, taking a pay cut to do some minor work as he ages gracefully, phasing out. Too bad.

That's 1/2 the Food TV schedule - curious how they will attempt to fill the void he leaves!!!

Emeril Lagasee was the reason I started watching the Food Network. He's a master chef, but I understand and can follow his recipes easily. There's a few other shows I enjoy on the network, like Iron Chef, but they could take half of them off and renegotiate with Emeril and come out a lot better in the ratings. Personally, I always wondered why Bobby Flay is called an Iron Chef - he can't hold a candle for Emeril to run by.

I was forced to stop watching after the 100th time I heard about my knob, something not coming seasoned or the next notch. At least on Essence he is watchable because he doesn't have to do it live, he reads a teleprompter.

It's sad but it's time the novelty has worn out and "BAM and Kick It Up a Notch" are like an annoying skipping record. He's done great things for FoodTV and I am sure he will continue to do great things elsewhere.

emeril is a great chef i liked watching him on tv and for his bam & turn it up a notch i liked that too. But he was doing to many fish shows and i like a variety of things to cook and also he ranks up there with rachel ray, paula dean and maybe a few others but is greatest of them all.

I have a hard time watching any of the Emeril shows... he is just grating, especially when everyone is supposed to care when he happens to add a little garlic or pepper to something... come on people, if it's so amazing to everyone that you put herbs and spices in your food to make it taste good, then I guess maybe you should continue to eat you Kraft Mac n Cheese and McDonald's. I enjoy Bobby Flay occasionally, and I have seem most of Alton Brown's "Good Eats" but I suppose that's because I really don't want to watch somebody make something on TV, I want to know why it's done that way so I can change it up myself. I think the Food Network is making a good move by taking Emeril Live off of the air. And it wouldn't hurt my feelings to take him off of the air completely.

How about they replace him with Ramsay's F Word re-runs? I'm tired of explaining who Gordon Ramsay is to people because he's so far up the dial on BBC America (and dumbed down and sensationalized on Fox)

I admit he was a major draw for me when I first started watching the network. He made more complicated dishes seem or appear easier than I thought. He "threw things on the plate" to demonstrate it isn't all "Placed Just So" and gave me more confidence.
That said, his "schtick" got old in a BIG ASS hurry. I'm sick of "BAM" and mindless applause every time he uses the word garlic, and worst of all, his one liners that are just tired. "Too bad you don't have smell-o-vision" and the worst offender of all "I don't know about you, but where I come from, flour don't come seasoned." I think his overuse of that line alone is what makes me turn the channel every single time.

I ENJOYED THE SHOW THAT HE TOOK US INTO THE KITCHEN WHERE HIS BACK UP TEAM OF CHEFS ARE WORKING AND HE SAID HE COULD NOT DO HIS SHOW IF IT WASN'T FOR THEM TO SMOOTH OVER HIS GOOFS... NOW THAT IS CLASS!!

I stopped watching the Food Channel about a year ago.
The whole station has gone done as far as I am concerned.
Jeez... Rachel Ray has about seven repeats during the day.
Emeril is ok but even he is saying the same thing all the time.I think the management either has changed or they have lost their touch.

Emeril, in some ways like Julia Childs before him, was the pioneer that kicked off the Food Channel. And as someone said earlier, the channel seems to have taken another direction with the various new shows and the marketing and merchandising of cook books, food products and kitchen equipment. As someone once said there is a season for everything. Like him or not he was a beacon for the fledgling Food Network as and lets give this Chef his due and our respect for what he has given to the American Chef Wannabees. Thanks Emeril, God Bless and Good Luck in whatever you do in the future.

Emeril live was the best show on Food Network. You could really follow directions and make his recipes. Some show have to go so fast and cut out the real makings that you don't know what happened. I agree that the BAM was over done and the loud clapping for garlic or any alcohol was tooo much. Also I always muted the sound when the band played. It was the actual cooking that I enjoyed. Hope he does something more simple on TV.
