Raising the Bar -- Tom & Jerry

Tom and Jerry: Like eggnog but want to try something different? Try this old warhorse, dating from the early 1800's, long rumored to be the invention of Jerry Thomas, the OG of bartenders and mixologists, though it appears now a sportswriter named Pierce Egan came up with this. This particular recipe comes from CocktailDB.com, my favorite cocktail recipe repository.

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 oz light rum
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • Mix vigorously, pour into 6 oz mug and top with hot water
  • Add nutmeg
  • 1 egg white, beat until stiff & pour into mug
  • 1/2 oz brandy, stirred in
Sit back. Enjoy.

"Mix vigorously, ****pour into 6 oz mug and top with hot water****
Add nutmeg, 1 egg white, beat until stiff & pour into mug

is pretty self explanatory, no?

We make a big batch of T&J's in the bowl and let out guests serve themselves with their ouwn T&J mugs. Hot water is keep hot in a coffee maker.

Then when my sister Charlotte got married, she and her husband Tom found a recipe that called for using melted vanilla ice cream, butter, sugar, and spices that was soooo good. Since then, we have Tom and Charlottes at Christmas instead of Tom and Jerrys!

yokes stiff. Then add 1- shot of wiskey
1 - shot of brandy
1- shot of rum
and beat till mixed.

In the other bowl beat egg whites till stiff-fold in the yake mixture.

Serve in a 6oz. cup add
1 shot of wiskey
1/3 cup of foam mixture
1/2 cup fo hot water
