When I was a kid, once in a very great while, my dad would take my sister and me to McDonald's. My mother was not much of a fan of fast food and didn't particularly approve of these outings, but we loved them and always looked forward to them. I would always get Chicken McNuggets with a little container of honey for dipping. It was total nirvana for me. As I've gotten older, I've given up my McDonald's habit (except for the two cheeseburgers I ate two days in a row last spring. I don't know what came over me) but part of me still misses those juicy, greasy McNuggets.
However, thanks to the folks at YumSugar, I don't have to pine away any longer. On Monday, they linked to a post over at For the Love of Food in which they make homemade Chicken McNuggets (following the instructions from this video). I am totally enamored (and I'm not someone who fries things often). I do believe I see these in my future.

Those look quite good! Also, I'm happy someone else got honey. I loved it.
Making a batch of gourmet chicken nuggets for a party could be quite interesting.

I made these on the night I saw that post on for the love of food. I have a couple of comments:
1. The result in my case was a bit dense. It might be a good idea to add some kind of filler to the nuggets to make them less dense. Breadcrumbs perhaps.
2. The flavor was somewhat lacking. At least compared to Thomas Keller's fried chicken I had made the week before. If I made these again I would suggest brining the chicken first, and adding some type of lemon, either to the brine or some zest in the mix. It would really brighten things up.
They were good as advertised, but could be better. Give them your own twist.

Since the recipe doesn't specify, I cooked mine at an oil temp of 350F. That worked fine.

Thanks for posting my chicken nuggets!
I'd like to address some of the comments:
-logicalmind: I don't know why yours came out too dense, I definitely did not have this issue. You may be able to avoid this next time by making them smaller/thinner. The balls I made were about 3,5cm in diameter or 1,5 inches in diameter. When I made the batch again I also realized that the flavor was a bit plain, my husband suggested next time to add salt/flavoring to the flour mixture.
-Bob: I'm sorry I didn't supply a cooking temperature for the oil. I don't currently have a way to measure the temperature of my oil which is why I suggested to sprinkle in some flour - if it bubbles quickly and right away, it's ready. As to the over-crowding issue, I over crowded my nuggets and had no issues as all. The reason I may not have had a problem is because I used a cast iron pan and they heat very evenly throughout. I hope your next experience is better :)

I think with a better recipe and stricter cooking instructions* by the author, these could be spectacular and easy for beginners, even as a kid-friendly, family thing.
* - eg. cooking temps and not suggesting overcrowding the pan for starters...
