There are very few activities that you can do that are as good as making cookies. Maybe playing a favorite sport or listening to your favorite CD or maybe even sex. But there's just something special about making homemade cookies.
Today is Homemade Cookies Day, which means if you go to the store and buy anything in a package the food police will come to your home and slap the handcuffs on you.
This is where I usually link to various recipes, but have you seen how many cookie recipes there are on the web? 94 trillion (I counted). So I'll link to a bunch of collections at various sites, such as AllRecipes, Food Network, Joy of Baking, and Kraft Foods.

Later I was diverted by trying a bunch of store bought products (refrigerated and frozen dough) for the convenience. Not many come close to making cookies yourself. I came back to my own recipes. No mixer required, all by hand... then I put the dough into a tub and keep it refrigerated so I can eat 3-4 cookies at time made in a toaster oven. While everyone has their favorites... mine has consistently been variations on the nestle toll house cookie recipe... notably adding dried cranberries (1 cup) and 1-1.5 cups of chopped walnuts to the standard recipe. I think the slight bitterness of the walnuts sets off the sweet a lot better than other nuts. Same with the lower sweetness cranberries as compared to raisins. Oh, and always use butter.
I loved the picture. Makes me want to have cookies for breakfast.

Did you know you can also freeze your dough? Portion them out on a wax/parchment paper lined tray, top with another piece and squish down a bit. After freezing through, you can put them all together in a large gallon sized bag and stick them back in the freezer (saves space). That way you can make double batches, freeze them, and have cookies anytime!!
And I agree, butter is essential.
