While I am not passionate about bacon the way some people are, I will readily admit that there's nothing like a good BLT, where the bacon is nice, crisp and plentiful. I rarely make bacon for myself however, as I can't deal with how gross it looks as it cooks (we all have our food quirks). I learned about something today that may revolutionize my bacon eating habits. Bacon Salt.
Once, not very long ago, two guys named Dave and Justin discovered that they shared a mutual love of bacon. One night over dinner, they stumbled upon the idea of shakeable bacon and thus a product model was born. They have a very basic philosophy, which is that "Everything should taste like bacon." You can get your bacon salt in one of three flavors, Original, Peppered and Hickory. Best of all? It's Kosher!

I have the Original and the Hickory sitting on my desk. I use it on loads of stuff. Amazing, this crap is. It'll probably kill me, but not half as fast as the real bacon will.
I especially love it on freshly-wilted spinach with just a hint of olive oil and a sprinkle of bacon salt. Quite a tasty treat.
To try to make a healtheir (HA!) BLT, I'm going to try frying fat-free ham up into crispy strips with bacon salt and see if they make a good replacement. Hey, it might work. This stuff really tastes like bacon.

Hmmm... Somehow, I got sucked into trying this month or two back. I had the sampler pack with 3 flavors; regular, hickory and something else.
I'm not impressed to say the least. The 'regular' tastes like stale ground-up 'Baco'-bits mixed with iodized salt. The Hickory tastes like the regular with a little artificial liquid smoke mixed in. Both had a nasty metallic aftertaste, and like the aforementioned 'Baco'-bits, tasted nothing like regular bacon in any shape or form. I never found out what the 3rd one tasted like before I threw all 3 bottles in the trash.
YMMV, of course.

I'll be damned... bacon on everything...
Sounds good for baked potatoes... and this may even be a way for some people to eat their vegetables although it may not be entirely healthier than not eating them at all.

there is all kinds of crap in it but it is a useful thing to sprinkle on my culinary experiments! My husband seems to have taken to sprinkling it in his palm as dessert!

Jenny - I'm just relieved I'm not the only one who does the palm thing. Someone asked me what I'd sampled it on thus far and I had to tell 'em -- my arm.
I'm thinking bacon salt rimmed margarita.

I love bacon, problem is once I start eating, I can't
stop and that can't be good thing. Moderation, I'll
have once in a while. Now this, bacon salt! I will
not cave, no, I refuse to do it. That would enitce
me to go out and buy the actual bacon and cause me to
consume more of it. No, I can't have it, so don't even try to tempt me!

this stuff is HORRIBLE
as soon as I found out about it, I bought the sampler pack. their website make it seem like this product can do no wrong. but in the end, it just tastes like smashed up baco-bits. the texture is not like salt, but instead... like smashed up baco-bits. total disappointing marketing hype. im sure people will buy a lot of this.. but i don't think you'll see a lot of repeat purchases. yuck yuck yuck
(and i love both bacon and salt so much, it saddens me this stuff tastes bad)

Sounds gross... I emailed the good people at Spiceburst in Austin to see if they had heard of it and even they thought it sounded a little too good to be true.

I can't believe you guys are putting this wonderful stuff down. No repeat buyers? I just bought 6 more three packs. It doesn't just replace salt for me; this stuff has half the sodium, and with the minimal amounts of "all kinds of crap" that you use with each 1/4 teaspoon serving, I am amazed that you can complain as much as you do, for how healthy it actually is. I admit the peppercorn took a minute or more for me to realize how good it is, and I guess they can get a strike for that, but to put it down based on it's texture makes no sense to me. What did you compare it to? Salt? Bacon?
