I used to hate macadamia nuts with a passion. When I was a child and then a teen they just didn't taste right to me. Maybe it was from years of eating just cashews and pistachios and almonds all the time, I don't know, but I just didn't enjoy them at all.
Then I went to Hawaii in the 80's, and everything changed.
I tried some again and, I don't know if it was because of the setting or these macadamias were especially good, but I learned to like them. I don't eat them that much because they're high in fat and rather expensive (and cashews and pistachios and almonds are still my first choices for snacking), but my opinion of them is now a thumbs up.Today is National Macadamia Nut Day.
