Maine Fare- Celebrating the Bounty of Maine! Is a three day event held each year in the mid-coast area with tastings, book signings, cooking classes and demonstrations, great food and beverages of all kinds, and over thirty of the best chefs in the state getting together to show off the bounty of food in Maine. If you are a foodie, then this is the place to be the third weekend in September, Friday 9/14, Saturday 9/15, and Sunday 9/16/2007.
Originally this event started out as the 2005 Camden Food and Wine Festival but it grew so rapidly that the focus had to widen as well. Now Maine Fare is coordinated by Maine Festivals and Events, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to preserving, protecting, and sharing the cultural resources of Maine through a wide range of educational programs and special events.

Friday night will start things going with a two and a half hour tasting dinner hosted by The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) with Maine chefs who offer Maine food on their menus.
On Saturday and Sunday the Maine Fare Marketplace opens and this is a farmer's market and exhibit area where you can buy Maine produce and foods and speak with the farmers and artisans who produce them. Cooking demonstrations by the top Maine chefs will be held in the Outdoor Marketplace Kitchen throughout the day as well as panel discussions and featured presentations. Maine Fare celebrates every aspect of Maine's culinary resources, from gardening to food writing and everything in between.
Throughout the days there will also be cooking classes, guided food pairings, and more off-site at various local Wineries, Inns, Restaurants, and the Camden Farmers Market. On Saturday there are 28 different events going on and on Sunday there are around a dozen including special Chef's tables where top chefs get together at a few local restaurants and create a special menu using all local foods and each chef bringing their own unique style to the meal.

Are you going to the chef's table Sunday night at Francine? I really want to, it sounds delicious. Buttruly, what isn't delicious at that outstanding restaurant.

Aynne- I'll be at the Chefs Table at The Edge. I have been to Francine's so many times I am on a first name basis with everyone (Francine's really is outstanding, and I've eaten at some of the best restaurants on five continents), but I haven't been to The Edge yet, so I thought this would be a good time. -JMF-

Good Afternoon, All!
This whole Maine Fare sounds fabulous, but I also have a few questions. Who are the Maine Festival & Events, Inc.? And what educational and or preservation programs have they sponsored? I agree that we need to celebrate Maine food and culture, but it seems as though there is a lot of money involved and I'd like to know who and what I'm supporting.
I'd welcome any insights you all could afford.
Thanks!
