There's something rather odd about putting those two words together, eh? "Watermelon Steak." It's like saying "Chocolate Potatoes" or something.
But this is something that's actually growing in popularity. You cut the watermelon into slices (removing the rind) and cook it in a roasting pan (350 degrees) with sherry, butter, and salt and pepper.
Now, it certainly has that steak look, but I wonder how it tastes, exactly? I would assume it's very tender and sweet, with the salt and pepper giving the watermelon a certain kick. At 51 Lincoln in Newton Highlands, MA serves it with a confit of tomatoes and eggplant.

Oddly enough, I've seen a chocolate (ice cream) potato! Haha, I wrote a post about on it at http://chewonthatblog.com/?p=186. But anyway, that watermelon steak does look amazing. I've seen watermelon turn up in just about every form this summer!

I made it. I took photos. It's weird. Not horrible. But weird. Probably wouldn't make it again, but I was going on vacation and had a beautiful watermelon in the fridge and didn't want it to go to waste. What the hell. You can see and read about it here: www.lelonopo.blogspot.com

Doesn't sound very filling.
Garlic mashed potatoes, loads of cream and salt and garlic - add a tablespoon of cocoa powder. FANTASTIC!! Gives an earthy taste that you can't put your finger on unless you know.

I had watermelon steak at the Metropolitan Club...Jeffrey Fournier must have brought it over with him when he left.
I thought it was quite good actually. I thought the hot watermelon thing would be weird but this was rather nice.
