Over on my personal blog, I played a game with my readers, and one of the questions that I asked them was about their breakfast preferences: Do you prefer savory or sweet?
A long time ago, I wouldn't have eaten anything other than pancakes, waffles, or French toast dripping with sugared fruits, maple syrup, and whipped cream. These days, however, I find those types of breakfasts more like dessert than a way to start the day. Is it my old age? Who knows? Regardless, I absolutely love a delicious breakfast of eggs in any format, whether it's huevos rancheros, eggs Benedict, an omelet stuffed with cheese and vegetables or simple scrambled eggs.
Which do you prefer for breakfast: savory or sweet?

Me? I've been the opposite, and am also coming around. I've always MUCH preferred savoy breakfasts, but after a few months ago, when I tried a friend's Banberry Pancakes here (http://www.pollyspies.com/Pancake_Menu.pdf) I immediately discovered that I've been missing some pretty awesome breakfasts.

Savory. And, unfortunately, the coffee shops around here carry very few savory breakfast items -- they tend towards muffins, quick breads, bar cookies, and (sweet) scones.

Savory.
Crispy bacon, salty ham, eggs benedict...anything of that nature will do.

I'm a moody savory or sweet. Sometimes I only want pancakes, french toast or waffles other times only eggs benedict or an omelet will do. But on those days when I cannot decide I get eggs done my way with a side order of pancakes and I'm a happy camper.

Savory, usually, though I occasionally eat a waffle or sugared cereal. I love eggs.

I'm low-carbin' so it's "savory" even as much as I do love sweet breakfast goodies... So, a nice ham & cheese omelete with several dollops of hot salsa atop is a pretty darned good compromise.

Sweet, but I'm vegetarian and not a huge fan of egg dishes (sometimes). French toast and a side of hash browns are perfect.

Savory. And I hate breakfast foods. Last night's leftover pizza is the best, but Mexican food (and by the way, bitter and picante, such as hot bitter coffee with picante desayunos is definitely an adult taste, but goes together as well as sweet and sour do) or southeast Asian or Chinese are also good. Beef and bitter melon. Beef Rendang. Sometimes I am out the door early and hit McDucks for a sausage egg McMuffin and coffee. Don't care much for omelets or other egg dishes, still less pancakes, waffles, French toast or any of that other froufrou stuff. Huevos rancheros are something I will settle for, but I'd rather have dinner food.

Savory and simple! My perfect breakfast would be a bit of Serrano, cheeses, and a baguette... maybe a bit of smoked fish. (More of an afternoon snack, but my idea of a perfect breakfast nonetheless.)

Both together. Pancakes, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, syrup on all of it. Gotta have a little of both. Man, I love breakfast.

Savoury for me. Nordic countries have the right idea- about five kinds of bread and ten kinds of cheese.
French toast doesn't have to be sweet, anyway- I prefer it with salt & pepper.

Savoury. A proper brekkie should be soss, egg, bacon, beans, fried slice, black pudding, mushies, bubble, toast, large tea.

I'll eat almost anything for breakfast, savory or sweet. I just want JimLad to explain what "soss, fried slice, black pudding, mushies, [and] bubble" are in his breakfast list, lol.

Savoury - preferably freshly cooked but I won't turn my nose up at leftovers from dinner the day before (or the day before that).

@ Kathyrn - You really don't recognize the key ingredients of a full English?
For the benefit of Seppos -

Why not both? A little portion of each, so that
you don't overdo it.
