I used to love candy -- anything sweet, for that matter -- and chocolate candy bars were something that I would eat daily. However, in recent years, I haven't been as obsessive about chocolate (I know! Someone is going to have my head for that!) I realize that chocolate now has health benefits, and no doubt, I much prefer the darker varieties of chocolate to milk chocolate, but maybe that's why it's not fun to eat anymore. The naughtiness of chocolate is gone.
For the last two weeks, I have been overdosing on chocolate. Having one candy bar a day to do a bunch of taste tests was some serious overdosage. I will talk about the rest through the week, but for this Sunday afternoon, let's dive into the newest addition to the Three Musketeers family: Three Musketeers Mint with Dark Chocolate.
What it is: Three Musketeers Mint with Dark Chocolate is the Three Musketeers version of a York Peppermint Patty. The usual Three Musketeers center that is fluffy beige nougat stuff has been replaced with fluffy white minty stuff, and the coating on the outside is dark chocolate. (Nothing new with the dark chocolate - they've had the "midnight" version for a while now).
Look for It by Name: I know. Who cares about the packaging, right? I do. I'm in marketing, so you have to suffer through my short analysis of the packaging. The wrapper looks exactly like the regular Three Musketeers wrapper with a silver background and red/blue lettering, but "mint-ifies" its name. It's nothing special, except that the wrapper claims to have 45% less something that is so unnecessary, it makes me mad. It's a candy bar. Who cares about fat, calories, or whatnot? If you do care, you should eat an apple instead of a Three Musketeers bar. In this case, maybe a sprig of mint.
Dark Chocolate: It's a thin coating. It's there. It's as trashy and waxy as every other grocery store chocolate out there. I love it.
Minty Filling: It has a very airy texture similar to the regular Three Musketeers nougat filling, though I can't say it's exactly the same, since i didn't taste one right after the other. If there is any difference at all (besides the obvious mint taste), the filling is slightly stickier. As compared to the York Peppermint Patty, the filling of the Three Musketeers is lighter (as in "fluffier"), and isn't nearly as "refreshing" as the York Peppermint Patty.
Conclusion: I didn't hate the Three Musketeers Mint with Dark Chocolate Bar, but it's not fair to say that I wouldn't buy it again because I have never been all that fond of the texture of Three Musketeers, nor of mint in my candy. However, if you like York Peppermint Patties, you could give these a try.

PS - It's "3 Musketeers", not "Three Musketeers".
