What is with beverage companies and their crazy new obsession with women? Last week, I wrote about Nuvo, a new "sparkling" vodka cocktail marketed at women (it's pink and the bottle is shaped like a tube of lipstick) and this week, I was reminded of a vodka that I first tried a few months ago: p.i.n.k. vodka.
Strangely enough, though the name of the vodka is "pink" and the bottle is frosted over like a tube of 8th grader Wet n Wild frosted pink Barbie lip gloss, there is nothing on the bottle or on the website that says the drink is designed specifically for women.
Maybe it doesn't have to call out women, or maybe the geniuses behind the brand did that on purpose. Maybe I am so brainwashed that it's only me who automatically assumed that p.i.n.k vodka was marketed toward women.
Now, I said that p.i.n.k. makes me nauseous, and it's not necessarily because of its name and bottle. I love pink (except for cocktails like Cosmos because that's just annoying). The point of the drink is that it's "the world's perfect party spirit," assuming that "party" means you drink like a girl --oops, did I let another stereotype slip? -- and stay up dancing and debauching all night long. The vodka is infused with caffeine and guarana, two ingredients that are definitely meant to give you energy.
Those energy components are made me nauseous. I can definitely do energy drinks like G Pure Energy and Tab, but for some reason, when energy drinks are infused into a liquor, I am either lounging like a limp lizard in the corner of the club trying not to throw up, or I am throwing up. Vodka/Red Bull? Exactly.
I tried mixed drinks with the p.i.n.k. vodka. It tasted fine as far as the alcohol was concerned, but of course, I wasn't exactly fond of the mix anyway since mixed drinks, especially ones with fruit juices, are way too sweet for my palate. However, shortly after drinking, I felt a wave of mild nausea. Was it the fruit juice, or the fact that it was a mixed drink rather than say, my usual drink of vodka and club soda? Doubtful. Though I may not like fruity, juicy cocktails, I very rarely get sick by them (unless by other obvious reasons).
As far as p.i.n.k. vodka is concerned, if you can handle a Vodka/Red Bull, you'll be fine. As long as you don't mind the name.

I think u mean pink vodka makes you nauseated-- if it makes you nauseous that means you cause others to be sick...

I believe it's "nausieated". =)
At least that's how my grammatically anal friends always correct me. Then again, you might be right.

I get that from guarana, too. Other energy drinks with guarana are big offenders.

Alcohol + guarana is a terrible combo. It makes me feel like a buzzed zombie. I'll avoid this stuff, thanks!
