(News flash - some like 'em waaaaayyyy hotter!)
Special to AOL from our intern Jean Morrow
To the rest of the world, they may be "Buffalo wings," but to Buffalonians, they're "chicken wings."
They are always served with blue cheese dressing on the side, and no one orders just plain old pizza in

The barbecue chicken wing is another story. For barbecue chicken wings, I always head to LaNova Pizzeria and Wing Company on the West Side of Buffalo. LaNova has perfected the barbecue chicken wing, served dripping with dark brown sauce. They are as messy as they are delicious.
Fans crave the chicken wings from LaNova and the Anchor Bar so badly that both restaurants offer overnight delivery to anywhere in the country. (You can order bottled chicken wing sauce too!) If you are going to splurge for the overnight delivery, there is one occasion for which wings are a necessity -- Sunday football games. My friend's family business, Will Poultry, bottled and developed the official recipe for the Anchor Bar's Sauce about five years ago. She let me in on a little secret -- until recently, there was no branded recipe for chicken wing sauce. The Anchor Bar, and other restaurants, used their own version of an original, unofficial recipe: Frank's Red Hot Sauce and liquid butter.

I'm from Buffalo too and agree there's nothing like Anchor Bar wings. As for Beef on Weck - how 'bout Anderson's??? Their sandwiches are awesome and their soft-serve ice cream is OUT OF THIS WORLD. There's no other place that compares.
Here's to the Queen City!!! I sure do miss it. Jeannie

By the way, the "little drumsticks" are really the wing tip.

Trivia to some: The "little leg" is known as the First section and the flat, two-bone piece which you don't seem to prefer (I do because it always seems to fry up crisper) is called the second section. The third section is the tip which really has no meat. If you live in a Wal-Mart region, occaisionally you can find bags of First section only or Second section only wing parts. If you're into breaded wings at all (most purists aren't), try the Pilgrim hot wings and then douse with your favorite sauce and drain. BTW, if you want to experiment, some of the bottled marinades out there, heated with a little butter to mellow them some, are great on either fried or bbq'ed wings. KC Masterpiece Jamaican Jerk and some of the A-1 Marinades can make a great football wing-fest. Just fry up some wings, keep wings & sauces heated, let guests serve themselves!

Now that's just NOT Buffalo style! Come on..... Please make the crispy wings I lived on in college here in beautiful Eastern WA. Help :)

How about Anderson's for soft ice cream, BBQ and of course, Beef on Weck? The Beef today isn't as good, I'll admit, as it was in the early days when the only Anderson's was on Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda before franchising!!

Probably 6 or 7 years ago they branched out and the signs changed to "Just Pizza....And Subs." They've since added wings.....their stuffed bread (a giant calzone), 3 cheese steak pizza, BBQ chicken pizza and the Chiavetta's BBQ wings are outstanding!
They will Fed Ex food to you for next day delivery anywhere in the continental USA if you have a credit card. Shipping charge is based on the weight of the food.
To take a look at the menu, go to www.justpizzausa.com. It will take a phone call to place an order :))))

They were in fact the best wings I have ever eaten and I put down 22 (of a two dozen order) in one sitting at the bar...Forgive me for the two that went to waste but I couldn't swallow another morsal...considering it took four pints of beer to wash em down, God it was great to be young with a high metabolism. One time I even bought orders packed to go and took 'em on the plane back to NYC for some of my friends to try...found out I had a lot more friends than wings. The recipe provided with the article here was the same recipe the bartender gave me that first night when I asked and I've been makin 'em that way ever since.
If you prefer not to fry you can put the wings on a baking pan , spray with a little olive oil and season with a little salt and pepper and bake em till they're nice crispy. Then dunk em, paint em or dip em ih the Franks Red Hot and buuter mixture and serve traditionally with celery stalks and blue cheese...I also like raw baby carrots or carrot sticks to go along with the celery stalks just for variety. And a supplu of good and proper beer or ale to wash em down. Damn they're good.
Thanks ever so to Frank & Tererssa for makin it so all those years ago and thanks to those who continue the tradition today.

I live in the Midwest, but I was born and raised in New Orleans where the fried oyster "Poor Boy" and the olive salad dressed "Muffaletta" sandwiches ruled. (SMACK!) Don't get me talking about Beignets and Chicory Coffee.
Since I can't easily get to Buffalo, I'll try one of the recipes I found on this website. Good eatin' y'all!

I will try the Gators wings. Have lived nearby for 5 years and have never been there. I will tryto keep an open mind.
We too were back in late July for a family wedding. OH MY. Anchor bar for the wings and Beef on weck and Pizza. We absolutely inhaled the pizza. Did Bocces last weekend as we returned through Bfflo. Not as great as I remembered.
Yeah, Clearfield Plaza's pizza certainly up there.
Andersons for everything.

I am savoring my Aletheas Chocolates, one piece every two days.

I spent the 1st 29 years of my life in Buffalo and before 1964, and in some parts, til this day, the typical Friday night fare in Buffalo is the Fish Fry--preferably from Ilio DePaolo's in Hamburg. It's right up there with Anchor Bar wings, Beef on Wick from Swiston's, foot long red hots and curly-cue fries from Louie's and custard from Anderson's. I'm not sure what I look forward to the most--seeing my family or going on a Buffalo eating feast!
