Fast Food Review: The Baconator

In solidarity with the upward and outward growth of fast-food chain mega-burger offerings (and hence, the munching public), Wendy's has introduced a multi-meat menu item called The Baconator. The website describes it as, "Six strips of hickory smoked bacon piled high atop two 1/4 lb.* patties of fresh, never frozen, beef. Complete with two slices of American cheese, mayo and ketchup for a mountain of mouth-watering taste." I describe that as "daunting".

Brooklyn's Ali D., my operative in the fast food field (and, thank goodness for her arteries and digestive system, a yoga instructor) reported today's Baconator Lunch to be, "An unbelievably tasty and well-balanced sandwich. Equal hits of bacon, beef, and cheese. Yum!" and her post-consumption state as "PMS-ing, bloated, and satisfied."

I somehow doubt that I'll be venturing out for one at any point in the near future, so I put it to you, dear readers, to share with me your Baconator experiences. Use the comments to share with me your bacon-based hopes and desires, and whether or not the Baconator came close to fulfilling them. I'll live all vicariously and whatnot, and post some of the more entertaining replies in a follow-up report.

However, when I took a bite, it just felt like giant globs of fat in my mouth. I tried to finish it since I had spent money on it, but it only took two more fatty bites to make me puke. I have also dubbed this sandwich the Heart Attack.

My boyfriend actually likes this thing though...

My first reaction was "who in the world would want to eat this?!" It looked so disgusting and like a heart attack waiting to happen; I felt like I was going to get sick almost every time I had to make one. But to my surprise a lot of people ordered them (some by accident because they asked for the #4 which use to be the Big Bacon Classic Combo and that's what they wanted) and there was a lot of good feedback, but I also had a lot of customers tell me that it wasn't better than the Big Bacon. I vowed never to eat one; I never have and I never will. I don't know about every other Wendy's out there but the one I worked at still does serve the Big Bacon Classic as a sandwich and as a combo, so if you just can't do the Baconator and you need your Big Bacon fix just ask for it :). If the employee tells you they don't serve them anymore then just ask the manager because the employee may not realize that they still have it; or maybe that particular Wendy's just doesn't serve the Big Bacon anymore but it couldn't hurt to ask!

I love bacon and cheese but this burger was just lacking something. Burger Kings BK stackers are ten times better. Ther easier to eat and you dont feel as shitty afterwards. BK is the future they've improved dramatically and McDonald's better watch out.

Has anyone listened to the commentary regarding our current health crisis ?- everyone is screaming about health care, but refusing to take personal responsibility for their own health. The few of us who do take responsibility have to pick up the tab for the rest of the folks who think their health is someone else's problem.
I don't eat hamburgers, period! - If you want to make a difference, then demand a veggie burger. Wendys, McDonald's, etc are only delivering that junk because there's a demand for it.
The baconator - why not just order a gun with one bullet and shoot yourself instead - quicker and won't cost the rest of us any grief.
BTW - I am a personal trainer and fitness instructor. May I recommend the movie "supersize me" - then go out and get your baconator

It was so greasy, too much meat and not enough bacon. I promptly called Wendy's customer service number and requested the old burger back. At least put it back on the menu Wendys for those of us that dont want all that meat and like the old bacon cheeseburger.

Now, you can hear all the crap about food causing you to have high cholestrol but your own metabolism is so much more important. Enough of calling something "artery clogging". It just ain't so. My 3 cheese omelet, heavy cream in my coffee, lots of red meat leads me to a cholestrol of 102! LDL and HDL are right where they should be. My blood pressure runs 120/70 too. Let people eat what they want. Knock off the crap about what others eat. Eat 2 Baconators if you want, it is no one's business but your own. By the way, I eat like that and stay fit in my late 50's.

In order to reduce the unsitely amount of hips, thighs and belly's and not to mention unhealthy arteries, instead of slamming the cheese and meat, you might want to reduce or eliminate the bread! As a successful Atkins dieter, and I call 53 pounds success, I celebrate doubles, triples and extra bacon with cheese.... but no bread! Not only did I drop from a size 12 to a size 2, my cholesterol went from 300 to 150 and my triglycerides from 400 to 66!! Hooray double meat and cheese, just dont tease me with the bread, keep it out of the box and all is good!!! Wendy's is my favorite place to grab a quick lunch or late nite snack!

Even though it was not quite as greasy the second time around, the bun was still soaked with grease and flattened down. Will just order a regular burger next time around.
